I know I'm a bit of a newbie here, but I thought it might be a bit of fun, particularly as it is bbq / outside cooking season at the moment, to have a "today I cooked on" thread! :D

The only rule is pictures or posts must be genuinely what was used for cooking on any given day, no archive pics... I plan to work my way through my stoves over the coming week! :)

    I'll start with....

Today I cooked on my Nova!

    Hi Magnus

Im not a chef, just a keen amatuer. ;)

I always feel that outdoor cooking must be done with a non domestic knife to be complete.

Knife making and collecting is actually one of my main hobbies, I only finished working on the one in the pic on Thursday. More info here if you are interested...

Great looking food Mojo, your knife puts my humble Mora in the dark

Tonight I'm eating spinach, onions, peppers and Lamb's liver cooked in butter with garlic, some bread on the side. I'm on my own tonight and I'm the only one who eat liver, great stuff that it is

    Great photo's mate

Today Mojo I have cooked a superb ( if I say so myself ;) ) chicken stir fry with water chestnuts, bamboo shoots etc. on my Optimus 45. Coffee was perc'd on a 00.

Very nice, but sorry no pictures we got stuck into a couple of bottles of red wine, and my mind was not clear at the time 8)

After the effects of the coffee I knocked up a washer for the riser tube of my Primus 5, which had defeated all previous attempts to be fettled, and it is once more purring just fine

The weather here like elsewhere has been gorgeous, and work on the motorhome got on well.

    What a good day !

    Cheers

    HI Henry

I see your homemade Borde windbreak/pan stand is working well.
You just had to show us that gorgeous Borde again, didn't you?!!

    Iain,

What's wrong that you need medical attention? I would make a house call, if you are really in need! (Just say No!)  Hope all is OK! Take care, and God Bless!

I cooked (just heated up, actually) homemade seitan with teriyaki sauce, on my Canadian Coleman Speedmaster (one of very few petrol stoves I would use indoors).

Here's a closer shot of the bubbling mess. It tastes a lot better than it looks!

And here's a shot for you flame freaks. Maybe not cherry, but definitely Band-A-Blu.

    Hey, Arch,

Great photos of your cooking job on your neat old Speedmaster! I have one of those, but have never messed with it too much. Great old stove, though. Your meal looks delicious, though maybe a little too "hot with fire" for my tastes!!  All those "seeds" look like they came from a chili pepper.....Did they??    Take care, and God Bless!

    Hi Doc,
No, it wasn't hot at all (though I like the hot stuff). That was a teriyaki sauce, and the seeds are sesame seeds.

It was windy outside, so the choice of stove was easy. The Speedmaster never flares very much, and quickly settles down to a nice blue ring, so with reasonable precautions, it's safe to use indoors.

    Hi, Arch,

Thanks for the further info on your meal. Looks great, and in fact, when send this off, I'm going to go and rustle something up for myself! ;) :D

Arch, I'm so glad that you have returned to the fold, so to speak, and are once again posting on the CCS forums!! Back when I first joined, I really enjoyed seeing the photos of your camping trips, and reading the reports you would send along with them!! You've "been there, and seen the elephant" and it's a pleasure to have you back with us!! Looking forward to more camping tales, and photos, when you get the chance. Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc Mark

    Hello all,

Last night I cooked on this:

    DSCN2371.jpg
My favourite silent burner n.45 Optimus stove

It was a very hot evening, too hot to stay inside, 'slaving' over a hot cooker ;), so I just had to get a stove out and cook on the balcony! :)

The menu was simple, something we have all cooked before, I'm sure. The ingredients being, 'what do we have in the fridge'?

I found 2 chicken breasts, a lemon and some cherry tomatoes.
    So ...
    Large pan, some Olive Oil
    Chicken in the pan
Juice of half a lemon, mixed with a little water
Crumble a little piece of stock cube and let it cook

    DSCN2372.jpg

The toms. were quartered into a bowl, Olive Oil, fresh basil and sea salt !

    DSCN2376.jpg

Some Basmati rice kept the meal balanced and light

    DSCN2379.jpg

That's my La Cruset earthenware rice pot. Had it for about 28 years now, and it's only ever used to cook rice. Not really a back packing item :), but it always cooks rice just right !
    Dinner is served!

    DSCN2381.jpg

Looks a bit white .. but a sprinkle of soy sauce did the job in adding a bit more colour.
A nice, crisp, chilled white wine was enjoyed with the meal :D

And, naturally, at the end of it all, a coffee was required

    DSCN2383.jpg

The wine and lack of a tripod (STILL ?) didn't help with the focusing :)

Tonight I'm working late :( .. tea and toast for me, at 11 p.m. when I get home .

    Enjoy the Flame

    Spudz

    Morning, Spudz,

WOW! Very nice photos, Lad!! Love the color that you've arranged, lots of red, white, green, and especially at the end, BLUE! Yeah!!! Nicey arranged, nicely done, and a meal well worth eating! Those silent Optimus 45's are certainly a wonderful version of that stove, aren't they?! We love ours, and other similar silent models, especially for kitchen duty. When Sweet Bride returns from her work trip, I'll have to show her your photos. She's been asking about one of those rice pots, like yours. Neat! Thanks, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc Mark
