Greetings all I've recently bought a MSR XGK EX stove and as you may know it comes with a XJ jet and a XD jet. I sent an e-mail to MSR regarding these jets and I got an answer from MSR with a chart of jets and fuels for both the XGK EX and the Dragonfly stoves. I'll post it here since it can be useful for others Best Regards, Kjellis
Thanks. Too bad they don't give specs. I'd be curious to know what the orifice diameters are for the military model.
I agree, it would been nice to have the exact specs.. The guy from MSR wrote that the orifice diameter of the XJ jet is smaller than the XK jet. It would work with kerosene and gas, but the stove will have less effect than with the XK jet. I think I must buy an XK jet, better buy an Expedition Service Kit so I have some extra parts as well. /Kjellis
Thanks for sharing the jet info. Very interesting that white gas uses one jet, while naptha has two jets listed. Coleman Fuel is basically naptha so I guess, by the chart, either jet could be used on the Dragonfly. I guess they also consider white gas and naptha in their pure state, instead of the recipe used by Coleman, which is a mixture. So, I'm guessing again that they mean the pure naptha you can find at the hardware store that actually says, "Naptha", on the can. And, 'white gas' is maybe what people can get at the pump, or used to get at the pump. Using the smaller jet (K) will still work with white gas, it will just be a smaller flame, which won't be as powerful. Thanks, sam
I have been playing with my new XGK EX this weekend, trying different fuels on the XJ jet. I've tried kerosene, lighter fluid, diesel and a mix of lighter fluid and diesel. Kerosene burns most powerful and pure lighter fluid gives lowest power. Diesel burned with yellow tips of the flame, but when I mixed it with lighter fluid i burned pretty good, but not as strong as kerosene. I'm waiting for a GK jet in the mail and I'm looking forward to try that and compare it to the XJ jet Regards, Kjellis
I was in the same position recently after purchasing an XGK military. The GK jet is much improved over the XJ when using white gas or kero. More powerful. Then I added a BD silent cap and it is amazing! Enjoy your XGK!
That's what I thought, so I ordered the Expedition Service kit. I believe that the kit contains an GK jet Thanks! /Kjellis
