Testing outdoors, temperature 1dgr Celsius and gentle breeze. I boiled 1 ltr cold water in Trangia stainless army messkit. Conclusion: Svea 123: 25,5 min. Juwel 33: 11,5 min. The Svea 123 may be safe in hot weather and so on, but without pump it's really slow in arctic winter weather. The Juwel roared away with increasing flame all the way. |imgRemoved|
I don`t know, may be it has to do with the heatshield on the Svea, that it`s preventing it from heating properly when windy.
One positive thing for the Svea 123 tho, it fits nicely inside the Trangia stainless army messkit alongside the pincer and alcohol bottle Same as the Juwel 33.
I was amazed of these results so I checked the SVEA thoroughly. Conclusion: Lid gasket is ok, graphite is ok, wick looks like new, safety valve works nicely and is not leaking. The burner is properly tightened and ain't leaking.....It`s good as new all over, same is the Juwel... Newly restored, all gaskets and even the paint new
In summertime, or in central Europe/USA the SVEA`s probably the safest choice. But in the cold winters of northern Norway, in sub-zero temperatures, I go for the old sturdy Juwel 33. No need to pump, no need to leave the sleeping bag even Just prime it, light it and put the kettle on. 10-15 min later you`re drinking hot coffee and having a nice dryteck meal
Why only a simmer flame shot on the svea? Both of mine burn like your jewel with 3/4 of the burner bell red when viewed in darkness.
I'm with Geeves on your Svea 123 looking anemic. Here's one of my Rs: About three minutes in from take-off. Non-adulterated in any way.
May be i need to clean the burner inside, if yours is burning like that somethings has to be wrong with mine.

Aye - you can't taint the reputation of this classic just because this one doesn't look to be performing properly. Keep us informed of progress! I've known filler cap seals seem ok on these but a big improvement on replacement.
Now I have blown it clean with pressurised air, the inprovement is good. I will repeat the test against the Juwel as soon as I have time. And of course I will update you when I`ve got the results. Thank you all for advices and inputs
I did remove the wick, i removed the whole burner from the tank and all parts from it too Now the Svea burns much like the Juwel. I will compare as soon as possible and inform you about it, the burner looks new inside and out but it had to be something clogging it before.
Even just having the wick pushed all the way in or in too hard or just too tight can affect how they go.
OK good stovers, I have to ask all of you, and the Svea 123 enthusiasts for forgiveness I have retested the Svea in even colder conditions today, -3,5 dgr Celcius and gentle breeze....Conclusion: 1 liter cold water in 10 min. Something was clogging my vaporiser, now it`s working really fine.
No problems, i tested the Svea even more today and start to get to know it alot better. It`s really performing well and the complete pakkage of Svea 123, Trangia stainless army mess kit + Metal alcoholbottle is really nice and compact The Trangia messkit of cause is alittle heavy, the good news is that they sell exactly the same kit made from aluminium on Ebay....Search Swedish mess kit. With the stainless one it`s allmost bullet proof tho, and you don`t get aluminium in your food.
