Hi, I recently came upon an old Op.111 case from which I had removed the tank and burner several years ago for another project. The case was distorted, was missing its closure "catch", and was very rusty. A good stove friend provided a tank and silent burner so the project could begin. I fitted a new regulator/cleaning assembly and renewed all seals and washers of the burner and tank. I straightened the case, removed all the residual paint with paint stripper and removed the rust and passivated the steel using phosphoroic acid. I painted the case British Racing Green, using heat proof engine block paint: I do not have access to a spot welder, so re-attached the spring closure catch by drilling a hole and using a stainless steel button-head bolt and lock-nut. It works well. It sometimes happens that the hinges or closure catches become detached from Op.111 type stoves. I believe that this type of fastening offers an easy repair, whilst still looking neat. Good Morning, George, Excellent fettle, and refurbish of that old 111T!! That version is my most favorite and I truly prefer it to the later ones with the multi-tool regulating knob. Also, good job on reattaching the closure clasp. The button-headed bolt you used not only worked well, but looks good, too. What are your plans for a windscreen? Do you have a proper brass spare, or are you going to cobble something fun together? I know it will work perfectly, in any case, no matter which way you decide to go. Hi Doc, when it comes to windshields for this Op.111 I am spoiled for choice. My good stove friend very kindly gifted me an original Optimus deep skirt brass windshield: I also have the stainless steel short skirt windshield I made from a sugar bowl: You will also notice that this stove is fitted with a unique bathroom fitting-type chain for securing the regulator knob: Best Regards, George.
Fantastic fettle George. I've one with a broken hinge on it and I've been wracking my poor old brain for a solution. Those bolts are just the thing. I've even been trolling the used sites for a used spot welder but paying $200 for a single use tool just isn't in my budget. Thanks for the brilliant idea! Stan in Canada
George, I'm curious about the wind shield. Here's a pic of mine which is different from yours. Were there different style wind shields fitted at the factory or is this different for the roarer burner? Stan
Hi Stan. Yours is a roarer and has the correct windshield and flame ring. My Op 111 T is silent and takes the skirted windshield. Best Regards, George.

Brass for 111T is nice but in this case you've gone with green British Racing engine paint so why not dress it up with sugar-bowl chrome! I think it's slick and all goes well together: the heat shield, the skirt, the latch, the wrench and the nice metal work in the bottom .
