Hi first of all lovers of classic stoves.
My English is poor, please forgive me.

I address the question of the possible causes of malfunction Svea 123R stove.
Exactly As for symptoms like a movie from the attached link

My stove has similar symptoms, but a little weaker. After heating disappear, but almost never manages to get equal (without blinking) flame after a pre-heated.
The wick is in good shape, I tried to push it shallower and deeper but it does not matter.

I have found playing with the Primus 71 which is similar to yours just no cleaning needle that crud builds up between the spindle and the hole the jet sits on top off. If you haven't taken this one totally apart I would and I would soak the riser in a good carbon remover. My two 71's were weak when I first got them. I then soaked them in a carbon remover. This made them better they weren't as anemic but they pulsed like the one in the vid. I put a couple of drops of sea foam cleaner in with the petrol and now they don't pulse and they roar. One sounds like constant farts but is strong. The other just runs strong.

Welcome to CCS.

How old is the stove?
Did the wick have a brass wire attached to it?
What fuel are you using?
How did you prime it?
How long did you burn it, and how long did it pulse?

I am sure more members will chime in soon.

Stove is a few years old, but it is clean with no residue. Wick has a copper wire and is in good condition (original factory). Fuel is pure white gasoline, prime is spirit (denatured alcohol). Pulsation is almost always one prime, two prime if it is OK. Pulsation ceases after about 1 - 2 minutes from ignition.
The same fuel in the stove Juwel 34 burns at once very well.

I have a Svea 123 that will pulse like that for a while after ignition if I've over-filled the fuel tank. Once the fuel burns down a bit, it stabilizes into the regular helicopter-like roar.

Maybe try it with a bit less fuel in the tank and see if it makes a difference?

Good luck. Hope that helps.

I agree with Gary. I've noticed the pulsing on a particular stove might vary with the amount of fuel, preheat time, run time, and current weather. And, some just pulse more than others; so if you can't fix it, learn to love it.

One of my Svea 123 stoves also starts with a pulse similar to what High Flame describes. With one preheat it'll always start up with a pulse almost as if it's choking. With 2 preheats it starts much better. Even after a pulsing 1 preheat start it'll clear up in less then a minute with a pot on top and burn with a perfect strong blue flame. I think if this stove had a small spirit dish as the Primus 70 does there would not be any sign of a problem. Because it's not perfect this is the stove I use most often.

I was today with a stove in the field. Also, with less fuel. Unfortunately, the pulsation is still the same. After 1-3 minutes, running into a strong and equal flame. But one does not start pre-heat well!

After watching the video BernieDawg's Svea 123R Stove Reassembly, I suspect that the cause of the pulse can be tight seating factory wick. Very hard to press, does not come as easily as in Bern. What do you think? I do not want to disassemble the back burner with no assurance that it will remove the problem.

Hi high flame,
before you pull the stove apart, check one more simple thing - empty all fuel from the stove, turn it off and make sure the fuel cap is on firmly.

Then hold the stove under hot water and look for bubbles (leaks). There are people on this site that know far more than me, but I wonder if your stove is self pressurising / leaking /self pressurising etc. Look for bubbles especially around the fuel cap and SRV. Spares if needed from the Fettle Box.

Hope this helps

Thank you, Norma.
Pressure checked, stove keeps. After a good warm-up is a helicopter and a very nice flame. The problem that is not enough to preheat one. Juwel 34 burns after one a priming OK. Svea 123R requires only 1-3 min after priming. Now I suspect the tight wick. It's fresh and in good condition, but very tight. It can interfere with the flow of fuel?

I have not had to pull any 123 / 123R's apart (yet), so cannot advise on wick. But I have heard of this problem and fix. Good luck.

Problem solved. Subtracted 1/4 of threads of the wick and the stove burns very well after the first preheating. Factory wick was too tight and restrict the flow of fuel!

Thank you all for participating in the discussion.

Had the same problem on a brand new Svea 123R, it worked fine for about a month then started to pulsate much more than it had previously. I'd already checked everything else so just tried removing some of the wick because it was a very tight fit. I wasn't as bold as you and only removed about 1/8 but that definitely made an improvement. I'd already tried pulling the wick back a bit which made no difference. Thanks for posting your fix.

Fourth is just a general assessment, it may be fifth? But the point is that the wick does not have to be pushed with force, but with a noticeable, not too much resistance. Now is good.
