This is an early version Pre-way No.4 . I'm not quite sure why the later version is a No.4 since it's really a very different stove. Both versions of the No.4 have been quite well detailed in photos but I thought I'd be the first to post a flame shot. This model has the very long generator and no metering rod which makes flame control cumbersome at best. This stove needed a new generator, gas tip and air stem for the fuel cap. Since it was about to rust away it got a coat of paint. I chose black since that's what I found under the name plate. Enjoy the pics. Rick
Nice little stove! I've got one in brown that works well, but now needs a new valve packing job. Is the second burner control on yours a skate key, or something actually stamped PreWay? Where did you ever find a new generator? I would think they would be pretty hard to find. John

Hi John I have not seen a Preway stamped key on one of these yet. Either they were sourced out or they have been lost. The generator was made from 5/16 .042" wall 260 brass tubing. The forty TPI threads were cut on my lathe prior bending. I had the original gas tip but it was worn out. The hole was over .025". This was made with 7/16 hex stock, and matches the original quite well. I stuffed my gen about 1/3 way, fairly tightly, with refractory string. this acts as filter but also makes the stove run a lot more smoothly. I think it acts as a buffer between pressure in the tank and pressure in the gen. So anyway that's were I got my gen. A lot of the fun for me is getting what seem to be hopeless cases running again. That's why this site is so valuable to me. I've seen your post Hazet looks nice. Rick
