Another wick old stove

I was really quite pleased to have picked this up, but absolutely no markings anywhere as far as I can see..

Having had it lit I think it would probably take a month to cook anything! Still great for keeping stuff hot though.

 

I wonder if the intention of these wickie stoves was to be slow cookers i.e. the early fore-runners of today's electrical versions.

You would bung all the ingredients into a pot in the morning sometime and the meal (some sort of stew or casserole) was ready around tea-time. That makes sense to me...

I wonder if that is of Indian origin. Looks like it might have had a trivet that's gone awol.

 

These old wick stoves were traveler's stoves. At the turn of the last century people were moving around, leaving the rural areas and heading for the cities looking for work. With a simple wick stove any cheap hotel room or cold water flat now became more habitable. Besides coffee and tea you can run a skillet or make a pot of stew saving money over eating all your meals in restaurants.

That single wick one looks almost identical to my twin wick stove.

Aside from the colour Stonehopper it looks to be the one... It's a shame I don't have the pan ring for mine.

I have a Primus ring here so I can give it a go later...

 

Unfortunately the ring is too big...

I'm sure something will turn up that fits though.
