Guys! Super happy to have found your forum! A wealth of information here. I have collected British Army vehicles for a long time, and of course with them come stoves. Specifically the No.2. I have about 6 or 7 of them, most of them well used but I do have a new No.2 Mk 2 modified. Now, I have never really fired any of these up, they have always been just for display. Sad I know. Is there any way someone could post perhaps a users guide for the No. 2? Maybe a strange request, but, for those that have never used them, a good idea. Do you have to use petrol in the No 2 mk2 can you use kerosene? Cheers!
welcome Mack amidst the wealth of info found on CCS that you mentioned have you happened across this yet? https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/13264
Thanks for that. I searched using the term "Army" rather then Military, I will do some more searching.
You're welcome but credit goes to Sam. Nice bunch of guys here happy to help one another. Google says language in Halifax is English but if you know French those directions are even better yet. Who knows you might even improve that post a little and in-turn we have abit we can learn from your input. Confession, I can't tell you how nice your No 2 MK 2 is as I have no idea. My impression was the No 2 is gas? if so, is your thinking it uses the same fuel as the vehicle you have it in by chance? A No 7 case is on my wish list, so far that's as close as I get to your No 2. Nonetheless, WELCOME !!
There are some no. 7 cases on ebay.co.uk. They look new. I have several stoves, all number 2's ( they are just so cool) and one of the big No. 5 gas stoves. My earliest one is dated 1962, the newest is 1989. Quite a difference in the build quality. The newest one, with the silent burner, just isn't built to the same standard as the earlier ones. I pulled it out today and got fiddling with it, the burner adjusting rod wouldn't even fit on the brass valve. I had to do some filing to get it to slide on the shaft. Keep in mind, the stove is new, so quality control was just not good. Surprising for a military item, usually the quality is much better then that. Not too good on the French side of things, more French speaking people in New Brunswick as you move closer to Quebec. I will post up some photos tomorrow! I assume kerosene is OK to use. Gasoline is just nasty stuff.
coleman fuel which is expensive or panel wipe both of which are naptha you can get panel wipe from motorist discount shops but you need to buy the high volatility type as some panel wipe will not work in stoves. i paid £12 for 5 ltrs of panel wipe i have seen coleman foe £6-8 for 500mls
thanks for sharing. Now that the UK guys are back from w/e there may be more input. Interesting as well as you have 6or7 of them. I see a flame spreader next to it and I would be curious if this "new" one includes a roarer option but as i said others may cover that n more, maybe. Various fuels and stove conversions are frequent topics w/varied opinions, although like you few if any are fans of use of auto-gasoline in stoves. I stumbled across a post, I think converting an Mk2 to Kero using an Optimus 111 burner. I found this post as well, i like most things old and this seems an impressive Mk2 example https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/170 thx again
The flame spreader is for one of my other stoves. The 'new' one does not have a roarer option. I will pull out my other stoves night, but from the few I dug out, its interesting to see the construction differences over the years and how the No. 2 developed over time. Mainly cost cutting I'm sure! A few of the stoves: Look at the difference in construction. The top one was built in 1989, Picture #2 1972 and the one on the bottom 1962. Its interesting to see the changes! Tanks are the same story...Notice the difference in the heat shields and they way they are fabricated. The older the stove, the more detailed.
Thanks for the pics of the stoves. I am probably not the only one that would like to a pic or two of some vehicles as well. Perhaps with one showing the stowed stove just to make it stove-related.
No.2s have nearly killed me a few times, I'd still like a "good" one though. The one in the Pegasus Bridge Museum is a No.2 Mk.2 Modified....
I like the two I have. No issues encountered. 8) I hope Mack will still post more pictures of his collection. They look nice and it would be fun to see them.
What's this...why it's our own Bernie Mack show. I took liberty w/combining you two (impulsive and), you both have similar recent posts. Mack fyi Bernie's post, similar and pretty cool i thought https://classiccampstoves.com/posts/279162 Count me +1 w/Bernie I look fwd to seeing more of Halifax-Mack's stuff. There are many active Canadian members btw. You may want to buy an Optimus 111 (to upgrade 1 of your 2's) BUT once you get it, you'll like it and may want another stove, maybe a 99 or 199 etc etc. again, WELCOME Mack I'm glad you're here. oh, Itchy asked re pics of British Army vehicles fyi the lounge is open for non-stove posts.
