Hi found a used but tidy primus 96 in the tin last week (1927) version and looking at the spirit can thought the graphics rather lacking in colour compared to the tin which had been exposed to the sunlight. Anyway when i put my glasses on noticed it was wrapped in like a greaseproof paper and the paintwork underneath like new and vibrant colour never seen this before anyone else seen one like this? I wondered if they was sold like this and the owner just left it on any ideas? cheers pete
Hey, Pete, I, too, have a spirit tin that was wrapped with tan paper when I got it. For years, I just figured that was the way it was supposed to be. Then, after becoming a member of this forum, I got a bug under my saddle one day, and peeked under the paper. Just like you were, I was shocked and very happy to find very nice graphics, lurking under the paper!!!!! 8) 8) This spirit tin was with an old Optimus 00, that I would guess dates to the 1930's. Could be wrong, of course. Anyway, it's sure nice when you find something neat, as you have! Thanks, for sharing it with us! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
thanks for replies doc and rob never knew they sold them like this maybe the original owner never knew either so it stayed in place all these years. Dont think i will remove it either stay as it is now i reckon cheers pete
Morning, Pete, I did much the same as you. Though the paper covering my spirit tin's graphics was more like regular tan paper, I just cut through it at one seam, saw what was underneath it, and then left it connected on the other end. That way, I can see the graphics, anytime I want, but the paper stays connected, and basically stays wrapped around the tin. I'll never use this particular spirit tin, and like you, will just enjoy it for what it is! Again, congrats on what I think is a very rare and nice find!! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
