Found this pan(?) at Salvation Army for 49 cents. I couldn't figure out what metal it was but figured the price was right. When I started cutting it I found it to be chromed brass. Maybe a planter base? Anyway it fits pretty good and seems to be deep enough. A 6 1/4 inch pan leaves enough gap for good burn and heats well. No laughing at the out of round center hole! This was done with hand tools only.
Both knees gone so no more backpacking for me. I car camp now. It doesn't seem too bad for weight and is a lot stronger than aluminum.
Very clever! I will keep that in mind to do to my MSR. The soft folding aluminum windscreen that comes with it does not feel very robust to me.
This type of windscreen is oem for the firefly only. Originals were thin aluminum and crushed easy, which is why they are really hard to find. The design is to keep heat off the flame adjuster under the burner.
