Available on Amazon for 15-20$ Just do a search on their website (Colman propane conversion) and they come right up.
I keep a propane adapter in my big car camping stove. The 426D holds its own tank, a 1 liter spare bottle, a stove stand the small propane adapter, a funnel and a couple of pot holders. (Not pictured) ...well it IS a suitcase after all...
Hey, Baja, Look between the fuel tank, and the spare fuel container: red Coleman funnel, as nice as you please! 8) We keep one of our 426 stove, a D model, setup much the same way, but had not considered adding the extra quart of fuel. Excellent idea, Paul, and one we shall adopt. Anyone who likes to camp, and cook, should own at least one Coleman 426 model, as they are, truly, a rugged and powerful workhorse, that is also capable of superb simmering, and also offers three burners for three pots, if you need them. Probably one of our most oft used stoves, ours has been to every single CASG, and many other car camping trips, too!! Thanks for the tip on the spare fuel bottle, Paul! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
I wonder if a little Coleman lantern would fit in there as well... I keep a couple of UCO Candle Lanterns with Citronella candles in there. The set screw can be adjusted on at least the Stansport converter to maximize it for the 3-burner stoves.
Old thread. @Doc Mark, do you or anyone else have a photo of the hose that can attach to a bulk tank and allow the adapter to screw on to the other end? A Coleman 426NL I got last summer has the propane adapter sized for a 3 burner, but I see it is powerful for a 2 burner. Best bet to have my local propane distributor make a hose to fit a bulk tank and allow the adapter to screw into it then? I also have a working green Coleman ball with regulator that I would like to use, but the smaller hose end is set up for factory profane stoves. I also just picked up a tank that needs the valve replaced, the ball tank is out dated too, but hoping to somehow use it with original bits. Duane
Howdy, @hikerduane , Duane, here are a couple of quick snaps of the adapters we use on our old propane tank, and a Coleman 426D. WE can actually use two stoves at the same time, if we need to, both on the same propane tank. The adapters are from Coleman, and we got them through Amazon, if memory serves. The only caveat, now, is that CA no longer allows this type of Propane tank to be refilled. So, we're not sure this setup would work on the newer "CA Legal" type of propane tank. We have not used this setup for quite a few years, and so have not checked into getting an adapter for the adapter, so it would work with the newer type of propane tank. My guess is, that you may well be able to make that happen. I should check into it, and find out..... Hope this helps, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Soooooooo, wondering if all states require the new type valve now that you mentioned our fabulous state or just Kalifornia? I'll check with the profane company, only one in the area that can certify a updated tank. Would be neat to be able to have options, but then I don't use profane much, so the mostly filled ball may last me for years. The newer tank has a old valve, so would loose the gas in it if I updated the valve, or like mentioned, get an adapter to use with the adapter. Just nice to have options. Thinking the 426NL stove I got wasn't a bad price with the profane adapter, I can use the adapter with my 418 too maybe. I see new adapters on the bay and WM, but holding off buying one. Duane
Duane, Not sure if this is what you wanted picture of or not? This is my old style bulk tank extension hose for my small 10lb tank. Some gas stations still have the old style fill tip and will look the other way and refill old tanks. A certified dealer will send you packing. Had a 20lb old style BBQ tank refiled last summer. Also with some modifications the adaptors can be used on other vintage stoves. Do not need the S bend to work. Do so at your own risk. At one time in my early camping days had a empty 3 burner case that was used for pots and pans and other cooking needs. Daryl sunny SoCal
Here is the setup I use when I go someplace where liquid fuel is not allowed. It is a 425b stove, Stansport (I think) propane adapter, adapter hose to connect opd propane tank to something designed for a 1 pound canister. The hose is from the farm supply store, it was in with the Mr. Heater products.
Daryl, that S bend would work for my old Kampkooks coming in from the side like that. Charlie, thank you, will have to shop in person. Duane
I ordered a ss braided hose last night, this morning got a message that the last one was defective and more will be in stock in 3 weeks. That seems how things are going, first my Kodiak tent, now this. The tent came in weeks earlier at least. Duane
Forgot, I found some 1.25L aluminum fuel bottles at a good price to carry on my new motorcycle as emergency fuel, they are back ordered to July, but in a email the other day, those are now due in September. Cheaper than branded bottles for stoves. Duane
I am reminded of something my dad said. Astronauts sitting in the seats just getting ready for take off. Thinking that the builder had the lowest bid. Food for thought.
