Hi all. I found this mutant (silent?) burner screwed over an Optimus No 0. Could it be dangerous? Could it transmit lethal diseases? I don't want all my other silent burners converted into odd shapes. "TORPEDO" brand, made in Argentina, Pat No 71357. That's all I can read. Generator coil made of brass, burner tube is steel. Did anybody see anything like this before? Can't wait to clean it and see how burns. Regards. Héctor.
if it works dont mock it. My guess would be the burner and the tank are not originally intended to be joined. The burner had a different tank which has failed and the optimus tank was found as a replacement. The trick is that most coil burners are for petrol not kero but the tank is kero. This might run kero ok as the coil goes through the burner enough to keep it hot and it has a priming dish that is usually absent on coil burners. Try and fire it up and see what happens. Do so well away from anything that burns. You will be surprised hopefully pleasantly

I can see where this would simplify manufacturing to a great deal. Makes a replacement burner cap easy to make with very little tools on a good day! Murph
I've accepted the challenge of Doug, Lou and Kerry (bunch of pyromaniacs). As the restoration of the stove is giving me some problems, I've attached the burner to my old Shinabro 340 to quickly obtain some flames. Geeves... it runs well with kerosene. Some irregular flame pattern and the big distance between the jet nipple and the air inyector tube tends to produce back flare and the flame cap/tube gets red hot. Not a great deal compared with standard silent burners. Well... as I've accomplished the challenge... I'm tagging Doug, Lou and Kerry to the ice bucket challenge. Hope to see some photos soon Master Kerophile... those Optimus No 0 are beautiful!. Those example stoves are golden shiny brass, mine are basicly carbon. Wondering about why there are so few on CCS... maybe because I have lot of them. I'm into a kind of evil conspiracy to get the Optimus 0 monopoly. So many stoves and so little time to fix them. I've found the original burners, need to re-solder some legs, loosen burner risers and deal with stuck NRV. BTW, how to tell to a NRV that has been a bad, bad one? G,,day Hector . I am fired with a red hot burning rage , the flaming audacity to call me a pyromaniac has me glowing with heated resemblance to the inference . I couldn't help the comeback . it is an interesting flame pattern from the burner . not what I had thought it might look like . thank you for taking the time to do it and put them up for us . I will do the ice challenge if I can find two people to help . one to take the photos and one to pour the bucket. so it might take a little while . and I will have to email the photos to you as I cant manage to post photos . cheers, kerry
