In the Lofoten Islands:- I didn't get a chance to get my hands on it but it looks like a 210 or equivalent...
Interesting destination for a holiday, I take it time spent on the beach doesn't feature in your plans?
Nah, the beach day was later on in the holiday. Anyway, I was hoping someone would be able to say something about the stove...
Yeah, that's what I was thinking - early, anyway. It was an exhibit in a local history sort of exhibition so not for sale - I did fancy having it though...
I don't think a Hovik Verk Primus 210 is real early. Maybe '50's. The burner should be a conventional Primus roarer. It looks to be a foreign object on top of this one pictured that I believe doesn't belong to the stove. There isn't much difference between the Swedish made Primus 210 and Hovik Verk. The tank is stamped Primus 210 but on the other side it's stamped Lisenstilvirket Hovik Verk. There is a dimple in the spirit dish that I've never seen on a Swedish 210 maybe for a pre-lighter. I haven't added mine to the gallery since there are a few already. They are listed under Sweden rather than Norway. Here's a link to one by Roat: https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/22900 Ray
Hi, I reckon that the Pr 210 in the photo was made after 1935, when the new riser and reserve plug were introduced, and 1962 when the Primus 210 became a cloned Optimus No.00. Some research on the CCS site reveals that between 1953 and 1961, Primus sub-contracted some stove manufacture to Hovik Verk in Norway, due to production difficulties in their own Swedish factories. So,if this is a Hovik Verk manufactured stove it was likely made between 1953 and 1961. I believe that it has a conventional roarer burner underneath a thin brass cap, and think it unlikely that the stove would work properly with such a set-up. Best Regards, Kerophile.
It is - I can just make out Verk on the far side of the tank. The stove was on a shelf just above head height so I couldn't see the top at all at the time. It's been in the last few days only that I've looked closely at the photograph. I've got a Hovik Verk around here somewhere but I can't recall which model. It may be posted in the SRG...
Yes, Høvik did make 210 stoves. I have two. One nickel plated. And a natural brass. Here a Høvik 41 left and a 210 right Best regards Stoveuser
