Best place for panel wipe is an auto paint store. Not Halfords, but a supplier to the trade. Luckily I've got one not far from me in Brighton, but that's a long way from Durham shagratork is in Durham so would be a good person to ask. Make sure you get the Naptha version, not the water based eco version. Terry

G,,day . I am wondering what UN number panel wipe is . is it UN1268 ?? if so it is what we call shellite . but looking around I have found the same number as thinners , spot cleaner etc . all with different prices . kerry
Hi GJ At the time that the Stesco stoves were manufactured and used in the UK (1950s/60s) they will have been used with the same petrol (gasoline) that was used in the cars. In the past I have used Stesco stoves with unleaded petrol. I have also used panel wipe. Like all things, panel wipe has increased in cost, though it is still multiple times cheaper than Coleman fuel in the UK. Stu's panel wipe is a good price but if you go looking for some you might have to pay rather more than that. I now use 'Aspen' petrol - the 4-stroke variety that seems to be the equivalent of Coleman fuel. I get mine from a supplier that sells to landscape gardeners who use it in their strimmers, lawnmowers, etc. It stops their equipment from getting 'clogged up'. The last 5 litres I bought (blue container) cost me about 13.60 UKP. I do not know where in Durham you are. The Aspen website has lists and maps of where all dealers are. I get mine from 'Carrs', just near Spennymoor. Post code DL16 7NL.

After a few tries and a couple of false starts I've settled on U-Pol S2001 Fast Panel Wipe. Clean blue burn, no residue (as you would expect), minimal odour, etc. I get it at my local sprayers, a couple of gallons once or twice a year. Alec. 1415625232-UP2001-MSDS.pdf
I use pure heptane. Works for all gasoline operated stoves. It doesn't contain additives to preserve the engine. Price is around 2 eur/liter.
SCORCHIO! £18,50 for 5L of Aspen4t, even panel wipe is pricey £14.50 for 5L, I couldn't spend all day driving all round co durham wasting diesel so just got the panel wipe. I'll keep an eye out for other cheaper outlets for it mind.
GJ nord Scorchio indeed! I did say that you would probably find panel wipe dearer than the stuff Stu buys. But do have a look around and you may be able to find a cheaper source for the future. The Aspen has either gone up a lot in price or the dealer you found is making a lot of profit. Actually, both prices you quote are much better than the 35 to 40 UKP you would have to pay for 5 litres of Coleman Fuel.
well I just tried it with the panel wipe and to start with it roars with a blue flame for a few seconds then dies down to look like a lighter flame (mostly yellow with a smidge of blue at the base) which keeps wanting to start at the nozzle so I have to blow it out as I thought that was a no no. any ideas? the wick looks white inside but I can't see if it goes into the tubes enough? The lead seal looks ok and I tighten the cap enough for keeping pressure without over tightening.
Looks like the going rate for 5l of Aspen 4T - £18.49 at my nearest stockist. I'll stick to panel wipe at £12.95. Terry Edit - just checked Brighton Autopaints website and their panel wipe is currently on offer at 3 x 5l cans for £25.90. Guess where I'm off to tomorrow!
Here they are selling Aspen 4T for around or over 20 eur for 5 ltr. Thats the reason why I stick to heptane.
Looks like ball park figures, a quick check around me here in Wiltshire, Aspen is the standard £18ish, and the PW from a large auto paint suppliers was £15ish. Anything below those sort of figure and you are doing well I think Best price for paraffin I've come across is 99p a litre on draught at a garage in Market Drayton.
