Another bump I'll bring some paraffin if anybody wants any £5 a gallon. Let me know in advance if you want any.
I will brave the wilds of Annfield Plain, I think. if anyone has Hurlock spares/tins they don't want or need ;-)
I was really geared up to coming but foolishly didn't make the connection between the event date and a family birthday. Gutted. John
Ross, can I use an alky stove to fire my oven or has it got to Paraffin? On the Paraffin subject can I have 3 gallon please Gary, I will bring back my empties from last year.
Gary will have to confirm the rules! I don't remember! I'm bringing washers & lots of new in box stoves to sell - both new & vintage.
Changing hobbies? No! I have a self imposed discipline that all my collection has to go in one room. Things are getting a bit tight now so thinning out some items that are outside my main area of focus - mainly unused & boxed 2 pinters & discus stoves plus some new stock items to clear.
If I PM you a list of what I'm looking for, maybe you could check for me? I won't be coming this weekend , the wife and I are off to buy a new engagement ring as the old one broke. Hope you can do the stoves at a good price. Si
Hi Great meet as always, thanks those who attended. An extra thank you to those who made a donation to the youth club, it will help young people in the area and ensure we have access to the hall in the future. Spiritburner won the bake off again I was far too busy to take any piccies, but I'm sure someone will be along with a photographic record of the event.
Still giddy with success & my family are so proud! Capt Chaos dropped of a disc of images from the meet today so will sort some out tomorrow.
good to put faces to names etc and see more of the north east ;-) the place had warmed up nicely by the time I left ;-) I've got my new purchase working now but the hurlocks are not staying light (flame's fading so it's losing pressure from somewhere). ttfn mat

Another great meet. I was happy to meet old friends and equally happy to make new friends. Various stoves were brought to be fettled but I brought very little. I concentrated on the main event of the day - the 'Bake Off'. We all had Ross's recipe for Grantham Ginger Cakes. I think that everyone thought that they could win the competition. I certainly thought I had a good chance because I was going to be using my wonderful Coleman Oven. I got it sent to me from the States many years ago when shipping costs were a fraction of what they are now. One of the main things I had to decide was what stove would I use to heat the oven. I chose my Primus No.2. It is big enough to hold the oven and also powerful enough to achieve any required temperature. It is also easy to adjust to give gentle heat if required. My Coleman Oven on top of a Primus No.2, with igh371 enjoying a mug of something hot. Some other ovens ready to cook the Gingers. For those who attended there was the chance of buying some new-in-box stoves at great prices. Gary also had a selection of his ultra-light stoves with accessories. Back to the baking competition. I could see the results of the other stovies' efforts and generally they looked terrible. The baking mixture spreads a lot in the oven and for some they did not get individual cakes/cookies, they ended up with one big cake. However, mine looked easily the best - so I thought I was on to a winner. But I made some fundamental mistakes. Maybe a photo might help with the explanation. The two judges, Tom, Redspeedster and Spiritburner. The judges were two of Gary's daughters. They did not care what the Grantham Gingers looked like, so all my care in producing separate cakes was wasted. Next, I thought I would make my gingers stand out from the rest by adding more ginger than the recipe said. I thought a bit of 'bite' would go down well. Wrong again. The girls said my gingers were too gingery! So I got second place. Ross got first place (like last year). Looking for excuses I felt that Ross used a different recipe to the rest of us. There was also a suspicion that he might have bribed the judges. As well as this there was a conspiracy theory. Tom is a long-time friend of the judges and there might have been some skullduggery afoot! Of course, we all knew who would come last in the competition with the girls judging - Gary! A great time was had by all. I would like to thank Gary for organising the North East England Meet every year.
Some good photos, even though the subject matter was a bit rough in places. I'm not bitter about coming last in the bake off (or did I ) See rules below. "The CCS Great British Bake Off". There will be a magnificent prize for the winner (yet to be blagged) judged by our celebrity panel. As the title would suggest the theme is British therefore your stove/oven combination, cooker needs to include at least one (preferably exclusively) British element, a separate prize for most innovative combined cooking appliance will be awarded. Sorry, no gas (that's butane, propane etc. to be clear). Anyway there's always next year.
