A short update of my underburn experience I described here:
    https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/29330

The mesh size of the Primus wire mesh inside the head is quite large which makes lighting back easy.
From running the head without mesh I had already learned that no mesh speeds up underburn.

    So I tried the opposite:
I added another mesh with a smaller mesh size to find out what effect it might have.
Source for the mesh was the head of a screw-on LP-gas stove.

A smaller mesh size obviously helps.
There is no more underburn with even the lowest flame possible while using a 0.35mm jet.
It only produces a candle-like flame dancing around the head.

Unfortunately, overall power is a bit reduced now....

I think if one needs measures like these to avoid underburn then something must be wrong.

In the end I decided to only use the burner bell and my own silent head.
Without the grooves at the rim of the bell the securing arms can now be exactly positioned to match the pot holders.

Tried own solution is quite often better than commercial solution... :content:

Maybe moderators can add this thread to the end of the original thread. :-k

    Update V.2

    :)

I had discussed the underburn issue with Gary (BernieDawg) and sent him a silencer for research/testing.

Gary finally came up with a perfect solution:
A little spacer to lift up the silencer.
Made of stainless steel and with slots to both use the original fastener for the spacer and an additional wire to secure the head inside the spacer.
Furthermore he replaced the mesh with a finer one.

For testing purposes I used the roarer burner bell with the additional holes at the sides for air intake.
Now the silencer performes like it should.
No more underburn, no more red glowing head.

That's excellent work!!! Both of you. Is the burner bell fixed in the stove. I mean nothing can fall out ?

    Neat.

I think you'll get a call from Primus soon.

Really? So, out of the box the Primus "silencer" struggles that much with underburn? I"m surprised they didn't test it more.

    Hi,

I'm not trying to mock the Primus Silencer Ti but it still needs a bunch of work done before it will be right, so why would anyone want to get a costly silencer and then have to get it fixed to work properly when you can get a silent cap that works straight out of the box without needing to alter it for your purpose.

I've used Gary's, BernieDawg, caps for years now without any problems. His caps do the job of silencing the stove straight from the box. His caps are the most affordable caps on the market at this time.

    Cheers,
    Norman

    Why this happens?

BernieDawg tests his products that they work with full power range of the stove and he makes changes/improvements if needed. That is 'the right' way to make a good product. :D/:clap:

At Primus some commercial guy just gets an idea that we need to do silencer to the stove and they copy silencer principle from internet and just produce it. They don't even bother to test that it works properly.](*,)

Wow. I just ordered a silent burner for my Omnilite Ti direct from Primus. I wish I say this post before I ordered couple days ago. I’d just order a 3D printed one instead. I like how the Primus one does not fall out but if it’s not working it will be pointless. Looks like I have to either contact Berniedawg for that custom spacer. If he still makes them that is???
