Any ideas on what decade this was manufactured in? Or any more gen on them(where were they made etc?) I gave her a bit of a clean up, the tin's got a fair bit o surface rust as can be seen. The stove may have had a leak at its filler neck as I can see some solder.
Hi GJ, there's not much info on these, but basically they were made "around" the 1960s. Stescos seem to have been of fairly good quality, other brands working on the same principle seem to have been a lot worse. When used properly they are nice little performers where not much can go wrong, albeit a bit primitive. Yours looks to be in good shape, and complete. Will you try it out? I have 2, a brass & a nickel plated one but have not yet tried them. Must do so soon! Best regards, Wim
ah thanks for that Wim. Yes I'll try her out when I've found a supply of fuel and hope all is well with her, not incontinent etc m
I have half a dozen of the Stesco style stoves, none work well. One is a Stesco the others have several names, but the instructions that are present are all identical. The construction of all seems slipshod. I've only got two coilburners that do work as advertised, a Dickenson and a Tay-KIt. Gerry
Hi Gerry, I have 4 coil burner stoves, and so far I've only tried 1 of them . The first Borde I found works very well, N°2 is still a virgin and may never see a drop o' fuel while she resides in mia casa... One day, I'll try the 2 Stescos, I promise! All the best, Wim
i have a stesco do you light it like ordinary primus stoves ,am a little wary as it looks so primitive
I generally give my Stesco a little shake and put a light to the tiny hole at bottom of the coil, if it's not windy, and a tiny little flame appears then quickly turns into a roaring flame on the top of the coil, petrol only of course.
