Looks like Optimus is changing their Nova stove to Primus Omnifuel direction that it can burn butane/propane also. I think that older versio with quick connector was much more nice to use than threaded lindal connector. (Of course the Swedish version with CEJN-connector is the best version of Nova stove ) Here is some info about Optimus Polaris Optifuel: http://www.optimusstoves.com/seen/s...olaris-optifuel-wins-the-ispo-award-20152016/ http://www.optimusstoves.com/filead...ads/Factsheet_Optimus_Polaris_Optifuel_EN.pdf Video:
I agree, that is the right way to do it! I planned to do it same way... I bought the connectors but I haven't done it yet.
Wouldn't some sort of 'legs' be on it as well? So that inverted operation would be easy piecy - when feeding burners that like to operate on Liquid Propane/Butane Gas...
The gas connector has fold out legs for inverting the canister. You are also suppose to use one of the legs when burning liquid fuel. Looks pretty good overall. The one jet size for all fuels is easy but it has to be a compormise for some of the fuels.
In my opinion these fancy wire constructions are just unnecessary: Cartridges just don't fall aside that easy. If you want to go fail-safe you can always use what nature offers. A piece of wood, stones, little branches...or use tent pegs and other equipment. So far I never had a problem getting a cartridge to a stable position on the ground. At least not in Northern Lapland. Second, for me cartridge gas is a 3+-season business, down to about -10 to -15 deg C. And now that we have the MSR IsoPro mix available here in Europe from Primus there is no need for liquid fuel supply in a 3+-season environment any more. Below that (in real winter) I always use white gas. @snwcmpr It's from Edelrid http://www.edelrid.de/Edelrid/Sports/Outdoor-Gas-100-nocolor.html juergen
EDELRID Outdoor Gas canister does not seem to be available in North America. The North American distributor is Scarpa. Ken in NC
Yes, that's the Optimus original - but that's made mainly out of vulnerable plastic (As far as I can see, and as an engineer I detest close-fisted plastic shortcuts in things where die-cast metal alloy is simply better! ) and additionally to that - it lacks a quick connector!!! What I was commenting on was that very nice solution Jürgen was showing us; all metal and WITH a quickie. IT only lacks an upside down support and a lift-up from ground surface. Then it would be the answer to all our prayers. Well, mine at least... Maybe a ring the diameter of the inner position of one of those foldable three-legged canister-supports would be THE answer here?
I am not implying better or not. Just that it does not seem that 'more than 20%' is available in North America, that I have seen. More Propane would be better in winter though. Ken in NC
In an early stage of stove optimization I was playing around with a canister support. But as I already mentioned I simply found no need for it in environments like these: This is my typical late autumn environment in Finnish Lapland. Absolutely no need for a canister support Orientation sometimes is the bigger issue juergen
A Compass is way more needed I can imagine... But in that third picture you can see one of my reasons for wanting some means of 'legs': You can access the regulator knob easier compared to when it is laying directly on the ground surface. Yes, I do know this is only the shut-off valve, not the regulator valve, when feeding liquid gas - but still. /Odd
Hi Jürgen, I just found this thread about the Optimus Nova with Lindal connector for gas usage. Can you give me some part numbers? Acutally, I dont have the old Nova with CEJN connector, I got the bayonet connector, which is the newer version I guess. I think it would also be possible to buy the tube of the Optimus Polaris, but then I have to change the tube when using the Nova pump. Moreover the tube of Polaris can not be bought seperately, I am afraid. I also found another approach, but this requires a second tube as well and also an adapter: Adventures In Stoving: Optimus Nova on Gas . I Would like to keep the tube with bayonet connector. I appriciate any kind of tips and help. Best regards, Pierre
Hello everyone I just bought a brand new optifuel and tried it with propane canister. And sadly it just doesn’t work. It won’t start, it simply blows out the lighter’s flame even though the propane is coming out. If I’m lucky the stove start but only at full power and quits as soon as I turn it down. I tried several brand new canister hoping that the first one was defective. No luck with this high end stove and it’s very frustrating. I’m planning on taking it all appart but if any of you have any ideas I would love to hear from you. Thank you P
Rather than taking it apart, I would take it back to where I bought it and ask for my money back. Tom
