    Good Morning, Gentlemen and Ladies,

In recent discussions here, I mentioned that Lake Tahoe might be a great place to setup the next CASG event, which would be CASG #9! I love that idea, and am wondering how many folks would consider attending the event, if I could manage to secure us a place to hold it at Lake Tahoe? We have quite a few Stovies up that way, and if our group from down South, and the Guys in the North, would join in with those that live closed to Tahoe, well, goodness, we could have a huge event and get to meet lots of new CCS Members, too!!

So, please give this some consideration, Friends, and let me know if this would work for you. I don't have any dates as of yet, as such an event might take a year to actually come to fruition, give the popularity of the Lake Tahoe campsites. But, IF there is enough interest, I'll begin checking into seeing if we can make it happen. Thanks, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

This one is out of my comfort zone in miles, travel time and time away from home(ie feed the animals or they get nasty).

I am surpised I haven't seen any attempts by the northies to set up CASGnorth meets.

I would love to do this but it would be a long shot(literally and figuratively).

But keep us informed, ya never know.

Wherever it is, that's where I'll be. With all those stoves I should be able to mooch a cup of coffee off someone.

Doc, Put me down for this one. I suppose you are suggesting 2016? If we can't get Tahoe a good alternative is Caples Lake. It is a smaller and more austere area but Kirkwood is not far.
A second alternative is Trumbull Lake off of 395, it is a little closer for our SoCal stovies. If you plan on JT this year I would have to pass. :(

I would like to attend this year for the first time, if possible. Lake Tahoe, as many of you know, can be chilly depending on the time of year. If the month of May, like CASG last year, highs in the upper 50's -- lows in the lower 30's, on average. June/July is the best bet. As the link provided by Rhubarb indicates, Mt. Rose opens late June, and for good reason. Fallen Leaf is an option and the largest campsite in the area but at a 6300 elevation. Kent was closed all of 2014, not sure what the update is for that area. Hope this helps!

Depending on what all date is finally determined, I would be very interested in attending. Someone mentioned the weather, which can be tricky in the Sierras. The other factor of course is the popularity of Lake Tahoe itself, making finding and reserving a group camp site "challenging". As others have suggested, I'm sure there are alternatives somewhere in the Sierras - twixt the Grey Area and SoCal...

    Greetings, All,

Well, after talking to many of our local folks, and to some of the folks up North of us, I don't think a Stove Gathering at Lake Tahoe is going to fly, sorry to say. As it looks, if we have a regular CASG event up North, more of the Southern folks won't be able to make it, and if we have it in our usual places, they most of the Northern folks won't be able to make it!

I'll keep investigating, to see if I can find a spot, "in the middle", where both South and North Stovies can attend without having to drive 900 miles. I'll keep you all posted as to how that turns out. Right now, it's looking like we might not have free time for an event until the Fall, but I'm crossing my fingers we can one sooner than that! Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

    Doc,
A valiant effort which should not do unnoticed. Do I understand correctly South Lake Tahoe is too far? Honestly there isn't much in the way of camping between the two locations; (JT and SLT) I only have a ball park sense of where the southern event is.
May I offer the area up above Tom's Place (US 395/ Rock Creek Road/ East Fork CG), as one alternative or Kennedey Meadows as a second. Seems as this year may be too soon but there is always next year.
Rock Creek Road also sports Rock Creek Lake and Mosquito Flat trail camp.
If I am in a better situation next summer I just may throw together a plan for a SG in or near the vicinity of Eldorado county or above Lee Vining. 8-[ :?

I seem to remember a very nice campground in the mountains just a few minutes west of Bishop, California. I think Bishop was a 6 hour drive from Ontario, Ca (East of LA) on the US 395 highway.
Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Park also. (It's been a while.)

    Greetings, Ken, and All,

Yes, there are some outstanding places to camp, many perfect for our Stove Gathering, in the Southern Sierra. However, the sad fact remains that very few of our Stovies will make the drive up there to attend. Our Northern member won't drive South, and our Southern member won't drive North, and "ne'r the twain shall meet", I'm afraid to admit!

Sweet Bride and I have made every single CASG, and even drove the 1,400 mile round trip to attend the one and only OSG (Oregon Stove Gathering). But, aside from us, and maybe the Mac family, very few would drive that far.

My longtime dream, is to have a California-wide Stove Gathering, with members from all over the State. But, after doing the CASG for all these years, I've all but given up on that "Pipe Dream". Folks just don't want to drive, pure and simple...... I fully understand that work, family, finances, and abilities make that the way that it is. But, for all those reasons, any huge Stove Gathering out here is just not going to work. Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

P.S. Sweet Bride and I are dying to do the next event, and I'll post the info whenever things work out to make it happen.

Bishop is a beautiful spot for a CASG. Lots of hot springs in the area and rather centrally located. Frankly I'll drive anywhere just to meet another stove collector. I'm the only one I know personally.

I must admit I'm a bit disappointed, I'll finally have weekends off so I can go to a gathering.
We'll be traveling back and forth from SoCal to Oregon this next year, slowly moving stuff junk and treasures more junk from one pile to a new pile...
Probably available for a meet anytime after 1 June anywhere (except Los Angeles, I hate LA...)
I was liking the Tahoe area, as I'm planning on getting the Nevada CCW license anyway, two birds etc.

    Hey, Baja, and All,

Not to worry, as I'm still working on putting together our next CASG. If I can't fit it into the Summer, it will have to be in the Fall. But, I'll try to pick a place where as many Stovies as are able, can join us. Take care, and God Bless!

I would be interested in the Tahoe area as I live in the Bay Area.
