A couple weeks ago I saw a Primus 71 with nickel fount on the dreaded Ebay and decided to take the plunge. Well it arrive yesterday, and I must say I am very pleased with the little stove. Here it is, as received... I did wipe the burner bell down with a paper towel to remove the soot, but that is all. Some of the edges still have a bright brass shine to them. Here is a picture of the inside of the tin as received... It really makes you wonder where this little stove has been over the years, because my guess is that it had only been lit once after purchase and then put away until I received it. And the biggest surprise of all - the bottom of the tank is marked "AE" - 1940! Now on to my question. I recently found this Sigg cook kit at a garage sale. It is smaller that the one we see most often. Here is a picture of the components of the set. The only thing I can figure out is that either, 1. It is designed for use with an alcohol burner or sterno tabs, or 2. There are some parts missing. Can someone out there give me some background on this cook kit please? Any information would be appreciated.
Fuelish, I am glad to see your recent score of the beautiful Primus 71 and Nickel plated to boot! This is a superb example of the stove fairy leaving gifts at your doorstep. Your cook kit is quite nice too, it is a vintage Sigg mountaineering kit that accepts the Borde Benzin Brenner or Borde Bomb. The kit you have seems complete except for there may be a set of tongs (bulldog) missing though I cannot be sure. It will also acept nearly any smaller Trangia or improvised stove you may attempt to use. One word of caution, Borde stoves are real firecrackers and get plenty hot. The aluminum of your kit, especially the wind screen ring and pot support are very thin and can melt if placed in the flame too long. Enjoy the Primus and the vintage Sigg cook kit, perhaps not adaptable with one another but still a great find.
A 75 year old 71 in that condition would put a smile on any collectors face. Can we call you "LUCKY".............. Ernie
Beautiful!!!! Nice SIGG kit too. So unlike the SIGG kit for the SVEA 123 these pots sit within the windscreen? And that is because the Borde sits lower? Ken in NC
One of my 71s have that adjustable bell....but I dont get how they work. Wish my 71 was as pretty as this one... Dave

Kero... Funny you offered that link as it was the one I found after receiving my stove. Like in that post...I see no real difference in flame pattern/colour, but missed perhaps the part about using different fuels (unleaded vs white gas) I also missed or forgot the note about being at sea level as I am also. I should take time and read much more slowly as not to miss the important bits... Dave
Many thanks for the information Chef BC. I am going to clean up the mountaineering kit in coming weeks. Here is a picture I forgot to include in my original post showing it set up with a small Trangia burner. Up until I found this kit, I always assumed the more common kit for Svea was the only one they made. Am afraid it will never see a Borde - darned things are too expensive for me! Don
