hey folks, just got a new item for my Crux and wanted to show it to y'all... i don't use gas cartridges too often, but do have a stash i keep on hand down here in hurricane country (i also have a Coleman exponent gas lantern that runs for 10 hours on a single 250-gm cartridge)... anyway, i saw this item for about a Hamilton, so it fit the budget for my stove habit... no fiddly bits on the shield, as it simply clamps onto the top ring: and in short order, my espresso was made... gotta take the break while it's still cool outside... we're moving to 32C weather in the next several weeks: have a great day, everybody! willie on the gaseous Gulf of Mexico p.s. going fishing for pompano next week - they're starting to run the near-shore cuts outside a beach pass to a big local inlet
Nice windshield. Great that you could get it for the price of Lady Hamilton, Admiral Lord Nelson's mistress!
I saw those for sale and was kind of curious. Thanks. I know for a fact you took those pics today. (just finished looking at the WSJ myself)
Couple of years I have used similar thing from Primus: Optimus windshield seems to be a bit taller that Primus windschield so it works better.
I have both the primus which came with the ETA Express kit as well as the Optimus windshield. They are both great. The primus stores clipped onto an 8oz \ 230 gram canister and will fit inside most pots that will hold a canister of that size (around 12cm\4.75"). The optimus will wrap around the outside of most pots of those same proportions. I really like them both and both serve some nice functions. If you use a heat exchanger pot with the primus windshield and cut notches in the exchanger to allow the heat exchanger pot to drop down about 3\4" you are completely windproof. If you're using an optimus crux stove anyway. The primus stove is taller. I tested the same pot, with the same stove on top of the supports and dropped in the notches and would see a 20% decrease in boil times across the board. With the optimus shield and having a cup tucked in closer I found a non heat exchanger pot to work better with that shield over the primus windshield (both using a crux stove). I never liked the primus stove that came with the ETAExpress kit, I did not like how far the burner was from the bottom of the pot due to the tall legs, which was the original reasoning for me to dremel out 3 notches in the ring that protects the heat exchanger. However that is a "jet" stove IE small and narrow heat signature providing great boil times for a HE pot, I just prefer a low and wide flame with a canister stove because I like to cook, if you just need to boil water then the primus would be the better stove. I'll have to post some pictures when I get a chance. While I'm here, does anyone in the states happen to have a crux stove they are willing to part with? The older bare metal style with the straight legs, not the newer black one with the curved legs.
