Starting to look around for a few burners. Im not sure what brand the Fettle Box carries (currently out of stock) but does anyone here have good results from any particular brand? I saw some "Primas" ones on the auction site...but hard to want to gamble on such an obvious spelling error.../....rip off of a great name. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Dave
hello Dave, As it turns out YOUR topic (below) last August I feel has good input. The source for roarers is the same / similar to the silents. The quality and strength is not at the level of vintage Swedish burners but I've used 2 and have no complaints. We may want to be more careful coaxing less than perfect threads esp the 1st time (if others had similar observation). There has been discussion re WHERE they originate from. Maybe was it the Butterfly, the Liberty or Liberty Rocket that spawned these? I dunno. Ebay sellers etc are "the middleman" and I've not heard any seller having better quality than another. In any case I'm pleased relatively cheap replacement burners have become readily available. Our members that use kero burners for all/most of their cooking would be best to comment re performance and how these hold up over time. https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/27886 thx omc
I had good success with those silents...but havent seen too many roarer burners (with the exception of the "Primas") I will probably wait till the Fettlebox has some stock as I trust what is sold. I do watch for NOS of the popular brands...but boy can those prices soar......
hi dave, the link to your topic and that discussion includes Juliands as seller he has current roarer offering for on ebayUS for $15. the title of his ad is ROARER BURNER TO FIT PRIMUS STOVE OPTIMUS STOVE Bella has roarers not sure of size. all the best omc
That was the "Primas" brand that had me nervous...lol Years ago while backpacking through Greece I bought a pair of "RayRan" sunglasses. Didnt cost me very much... Oh Dear...
Dave, oops, my bad, you had good straight-scoop all along, i missed it. His ad has zero mention of "Primas" and only found in LAST PIC. Hopefully others will chime in re replacement roarers. I can only report good transactions w/Juliands and 2 other sellers of similar burners/parts. I have not sampled that exact roarer. thx omc
The Liberty rocket burners out of India seem ok to me. Bella10202 on eBayUS. The ones I have are equal in size to the burner on my Optimus 45. Note: the ring does center up it's just the way I was holding it. She also has aftermarket windscreens for the burners.
Caution with the Liberty burners. Over half my stock was unsellable as they don't tighten up due to an issue with the threads. How many sellers are testing every burner fits before sale? They all fit fine on Liberty stoves but not on the Swedes. Some do, so I guess it's a tolerance issue.
I think I will just wait till the Fetle Box gets some stock. I just want some decent burners for my users so I dont have to use and age the original ones. As the price of originals keep getting more and more expensive....
I have bought few "new generation" silent burners and their threads are a bit too tight to turn into stoves so maybe the thread in them is not perfect. I need to check them with profile projector to see if thread profile is not good. Maybe it would be good idea to buy very common old Primus 5 type of stoves (silent and roarers) and get burners from them just for spare. Those stoves are selling with 10-20 eur on car boot sales here since no one has use for them.
