Nice find Is that type of preheating cup supposed to work without a wick or does it lessen the smoke and odour from burning cold paraffin gas using a wick indoors?

What an interresting design. It's just like one of those catalyst(?) paraffin heaters so it would work very well against odour when compared to just putting a bit of cloth or paper in the cup. An open asbestos whick is a bit of a downer though but nowadays we have glass fibre =)

I see you posted the link to Gunsoo's Monitor Regal, Tomi, a stove that is quite frequently found here in the UK. As you've said, the kerosene pre-heat device needs that outer sleeve/hood to work. I've pre-heated my Regal on kerosene successfully without any fibreglass wick in the cup but pre-heating with kero makes it an outdoor stove, since the smell when the pre-heat charge burns out is quite strong and would linger indoors! I agree with Trevor, that catalogue is a great resource. John
