@kerry460 Mitre 10 (hardware store) were selling 1 litre bottles of Shellite for $4.50, and also giving out $10 discount vouchers for purchases over $20.... I collected a voucher, then kept buying five bottles, going out, getting another discount voucher and buying 5 more the next day until the 1 litre Shellite ran out...
In New Zealand, you pay NZ $9.00 to 12.00, or more for 1 litre of white gas or Shellite (Coleman fuel) at a hardware store or outdoors store. Ouch! Mind you, we have some stunning backcountry here in NZ, so I guess it is worth the money. Kerosene is way cheaper, but not popular for outdoor stoves. Gas tends to be common, NZ $5.00 -$9.00 for 230 grams. Ouch times two! Be grateful for what you pay in other countries. Cheers Simon Foxxx
Kerosene in NZ smells like it has diesel in it and finding good quality kerosene is getting harder now. It can be so poor in quality that a good condition stove that would normally burn nice and blue can burn with a little orange - yellow in the flame and tends to smell bad as well. I have removed good jets from some stoves only to find that they still burn the same with a new replacement. Change the kerosene to a known good quality type and presto, burning a good blue colour again. The price we pay per litre for kerosene in NZ- we should have the best on the market but instead it is mainly crap. Someone is probably making a huge mark up importing cheap crap that would be illegal to sell in other countries because of health hazards associated with the fumes.
Blue used to be the best but not any more. I bought some Diggers branded kero from Bunnings and it burns ok but smells like it came from a well in Rotorua and where it has been sitting on the bench in the sun for 6 months its gone cloudy Hate to think how much sulphur it contains
G,,day .. if you know anyone in aviation , get them to save the morning test drains for you . jetA1 is kero . i havent tried any av gas in stoves or lanterns , but jet A1 . is spot on . kerry
Forget av gas. First its possibly still leaded second you remember all those things added to make cars run good but stoves bad. More of them in av gas

I managed to score about 350 litres of heating oil from local ads where people have finally connected to the gas network, usually pay around 50p litre It runs well in my paraffin heaters, sadly my son hates them so only heats my own room!!
Last time I was by Mills Fleet Farm they sold Kerosene (Paraffin) at the pump. Any purchase inside the store beforehand gets you a $.04 per gallon discount coupon that applies to gas and kerosene. Currently their Coleman Fuel is $11.89/gallon. They have stores in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and North Dakota in the U.S.A.. Their website doesn't state which stores have gas stations and kerosene on tap so a call before a trip would be in order.
Here in the Northeast US, I've been using Odorless Mineral Spirits for my Stove Fuel and Denatured Alcohol, for the Preheat fuel. Both are readily available and easy to find, at any Hardware, or Paint Supply shop. Have not had any problems to date with my Stoves (Svea 106 (Roarer) and newly discovered Primus 54 (Silent Burner)) and the ease of finding and low cost of the fuels make a lot of sense, for me!

Here is an update to the previous post regarding Mills Fleet Farm in the upper midwest of the U.S.A. Last night undyed Kerosene at the pump was $3.74 per gallon with no additional taxes at Hudson, Wisconsin and Lakeville, Minnesota.
i live in florida and the cheapest kerosene i found lately is jetA,at the local airport 4.13 per gallon must have own container,jetA,and kerosene are the same
Of course, if you live in the UK, the cheapest source of kerosene is to make friends with someone who has oil fired central heating. Yesterday I had 1100 litres delivered at 32p a litre. A bit chilly this morning but not worth firing up the boiler, so I lit 3x Bowlfire heaters. I can run them all day for the grand total of £1.00 Terry
