is it the one with a heat exchanger on the pan's bottom? - archie's got one of those. it's a nice unit, but i found it very inefficient/wasteful of fuel on a windy day. i did think about blocking up some of the vents, but done nothing so far.

    Hi Tetley

It's the smooth bottom pot. I think these are nice for in tent use. Windshield would be good idea to have along with the kit. image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg

Congrats! Great kit. I have the same one. Though, I've had trouble getting improved heat transfer, which makes me go through fuel really fast. If you ever do any mods or additions down the road to improve heat transfer efficiency, would love to hear about it.

(Slightly on topic) So, I made this pot stand for an alcohol burner from an article in a"Backwoodsman" (TM) magazine. Three pieces of coat-hanger wire. My question is - what is the optimum height of the pan above the burner to be most efficient? I think too high is inefficient and too low would smother the flame somewhat. Any ideas? Thanks, Tom

I suggest you just eyeball it. Just raise or lower either the flame source or the stand until it looks about right. You can raise the stand by stacking pennies under the stand or lower the stand by digging holes in the dirt below the legs. Same thing for the burner.
