Primus Deluxe 2398 and a Primus Standard 2063

Hi there from New Zealand - I have inherited a Primus Deluxe 2398 and a Primus Standard 2063 with two small gas cylinders in the case (think it is 1962 manufacture) and I have a larger Primus bottle. The hose (I have only one for the two units) seems fine but I would like to replace the o rings and the gasket on the bottles and hose attachments as they are quite brittle and I would like to use these without endangering my health. I sent an email to Primus AB and they replied
"Most of these stoves had connection for the Primus gas cylinders. But if you have a different standard in New Zealand or not I don’t know. For the Primus connection there are two seals, One washer and one O-ring.
The O-ring has an outer diameter of 10,3mm, and a thickness of 2,4mm.
The gasket: outer diameter: 19,5, inner diameter 3,5 and thickness 1,8mm"

I have roughly measured my very old brittle gasket and it seems to be 19.5mmish on the outer but more like 13.5mm on the inner and the o ring I have is more like 14mm on the outer.

Can anyone advise as to the correct measurements I need, I can get a few made (hope to onsell the spares) but I need to get the right size sorted to start with.

Any help or information would be appreciated.

What part of NZ are you in?
Is your bottle the blue primus bottle or cream Campanion or campmaster bottle.
If they are small bottles you can get them tested but it can be cheaper to replace the bottle. (if the last test was more than 10 years ago no one will refill them.
To use the Companion style bottle you need an adapter which is easily available at mitre10 or bunnings and they might be your easiest bet for the seals and o rings. Dont use the ones in the synetico packs and dont ask how I know this

We have a Gas Bottle Pressure Tester working in HB, and he services stoves and suchlike. You may have one in your town, he will also service LPG Heaters and gas BBQ's etc. I suggest you try there, he may well have the parts to sell you.

I am from Te Anau - I took the bottles to Fire Protection Compliance in Invercargill to be tested but as the gaskets and o rings were not up to standard there was little point having them checked cos I could not get them approved. He did say that if the cylinder checked out OK there would be no problem getting them stamped for refilling for another 10 years. The man there said that the primus bottles and cookers has special size gaskets and they were hard to come by and they did not have any. Hence the need to find some...

There is a seal company in Auckland that can make some (quite reasonably priced too..) but I need the correct information to send to the manufacturer

 

PS: all the gas bottles I have are the original blue Primus bottles, not companion or campmaster. I have got an adaptor to fit the cooker to a regular 9kg bottle but I still need to renew the gasket and o ring on each end of the hose - one screwing onto the adaptor and one screwing onto the cooker itself. The same size gasket and o ring is used to attach the tap/valve to the blue primus gas bottle and all the bottles would need a new one to pass the inspection.

 

Unfortunately I dont have a Primus bottle to compare things to. A photo might help. Do the bottles have an internal seal or are they relying on the connection for the hose with a tap?
My way of thinking esspecially as you are missing one hose anyway and the other hose is quite old. would be to visit a local caravan supplys shop and see if they can match the fitting on the stove and make up a new hose to fit directly to a 3.5kg companion bottle or the 9kg you already have. You can then get adapters easily to allow you to use the stove gas fridge and gas lantern all from the same 9kg bottle. ( I use a 5kg bottle with the same POL fitting as your 9kg in this way)
5kg will run all this continuously for about 2 weeks
