Sievert Svea 123 with a Trangia pot (pot gifted to me by @Hazet). And a hand made after market silent burner. Another Sievert in the background. Ken in NC
I did not want to drop the name, we all know it. It was an early one, number #BD21. It was a gift sent when I recently posted my wish to own one. It showed up at my home a few days later. I still plan to make one, just to make one. The details required are still here in the discussions of them. Not rocket science once the research has been done. The dumb man doesn't learn from his mistakes. The smart man learns from his mistakes. The wise man learns from others mistakes. I think I am somewhere in between. (You figure out between which ones ... ) Ken
Monday was a maintenance day, annual top-up of Gear Oil + Cavity Wax on my Rangie. Dubious uses for an 8R No.327: Heating tins of oily mix....... Heating Litre and Gallon Tins for over an hour, no problems, no overheating or blow-offs, 1 refill out of courtesy... 8) Alec.
@Rangie Good man Alec, those motors of yours are going to run forever - says someone who still feels the hurt still, years later, of driving my Rover SD1 V8 to the scrappy, engine as sweet as a nut and bodywork rusted to blazes. John
My $3.00 thrift store Optimus 8R. If anyone has a body of the 99 that converts into a mess kit let me know. I would consider buying it/trading.
G,,day , are you not a bit concerned about heating a possibly flamable product . especially inside . kerry
Ive heated oil before. It makes pouring much easier esspecially when its gear oil and you have a 1.5 meter extension made of hose pipe on your funnel so you can pour oil into the gearbox. However I heated my oil by filling the laundry sink with hot water and standing the oil drum in there. Maybe because my oil is in plastic tubs I hadnt considered heating on a stove but in any case I suspect that was product would have a pretty high flash point. I would be more worried about the solder melting on the tin and the product drowning the stove.
Maybe not for the 'Flame Shots' thread, but, I have boiled water in a Styrofoam cup in a fire. the water keeps the cup from burning and melting. It's one of those 'seeing is believing'. Ken in NC
Here is a recent acquisition, an embossed case 8R with a 3D printed BernieDawg silent cap. A fine combination, indeed.
Have no idea the model number of this Coleman 2 burner. It's very heavy cast iron. Including the burners. It was gifted to me several years ago from a friend who was cleaning out her garage.
MSR XGK EX that is new to me. It sounds like a jet and acts like a flame thrower. It can be taken down to a simmer even with my old pump but it takes a little practice. Much like the Whisperlite, it is all in the pump. From full throttle I just turned it off, waited until I got some orange flame, then turned it on about 1/16 of a turn or so. It throbbed between a blue and orange flame but did maintain a low rolling boil.
