Hi all, I am looking for the lipstick (vaporising tube) for a 1956 Primus 96. I have two of these beauties, but sadly one of them is missing these part. Doe anyone know how to get my hands on one such a part?
Yes, those are becoming rare, there has been a few selling them and I think Base-Camp was the last to stock them. I believe those where newer Optimus ones. They could pop up again so it might pay to have a finger on the pulse. Your 56 stove should have a proper Primus marked one, and the options then are buying a parts stove or buying/trading/swapping with fellow stovies. I am always (when I have the time) on the lookout for 96/97 parts, and I have just seen a couple lipsticks on the market for the last year or so – around here anyway. I did not get any of them so I have traded a couple of parts stoves, but I am always a few bells and lipsticks short. And other parts. A very important issue for all stovies: There are people out there who can do magic with used and discarded stove parts – bringing them back to life. I know most do, and please continue to reuse and refurbish old parts. And think both four and five times before anything is thrown away. The good and old ones are not being made anymore. All the best to all of You and your Families, e
Time to time in ebay you can see those as mentioned above. Also non-complete stoves are for sale time to time from which you could get the lipstick vaporizer and maybe other parts also. Whole new burner is also for sale here: http://www.fogas.se/shop/2773---braennare--till-100/ You can email in English to them and maybe they also might sell "the lipstick vaporizer" only (or at least it will not cost too much to ask...) (Just yesterday I got my 96 (1926) running. I got a tank, pot legs and burner bell from car boot sale and other parts from a lot of parts that I bought from ebay. I just needed to change pump leather and a fiber gasket that was used for the burner to a lead gasket)
Hi @Afterburner, I fear that the fogas link is for a No. 100 burner type rather than the smaller No.96 lipstick. Best Regards, Kerophile.
Your "local store" also sells those parts (although prices seems to be quite high...): http://www.qvist.nl/optimus-2006.html http://www.qvist.nl/optimus-2001.html
Yes, a few still sells new old stock vaporizer tubes and complete burners of the bigger 100 size, also Base-Camp. But those are no good on a 96, mighty fine on a 100 stove though.
I recently had a communication with a US importer of Indian made pressure stoves. As we have seen, they have a 100 lipstick available. However, I was told that a 96 lipstick wouldn't be commercially viable. Maybe some sharp stovie with CAD expertise could design one for a 3D printer complete with a threaded aperture for some commonly available kerosene jet. That would be awesome.
Hi, have a look at this post: https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/vaporizing-tube-homebuild-for-96.13770/ Best Regards, Kerophile.
Hi, regarding a technical drawing of a No.96 vaporiser, have a look at this post: Best Regards, Kerophile.
Finally, to save machining of the connection to the tank: 2045 Reserve lid for 96 £4.75 GBP Base Camp is the seller. Best Regards, Kerophile
Hi, here is a link to a post about restoring existing No.96 vaporisers, by CCS Member Stu: https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/primus-96-to-standard-jet-conversion.17860/#post-182885 Best Regards, Kerophile.
Hi All, Thanks for all info/links provided. I had hoped to buy this vaporizing tube, but it looks like I have get to work in the workshop :-) Regards, Marcel
Just curious, 111T, but what was the importer of those indian made stoves? I would like to see what their designs look like.
@Kwatsum Your best bet is probably to keep a lookout for a '96 wreck on the internet as @Afterburner described. Try to find some not-so-popular sites in order to have better chances. There are information on this site regarding how to repair/better a worn lipstick, so the state is not critical. Good luck!
