Hey sorry wrong translation. Not broke up and no Explosion. Only stoped it and cools down. Changed the Sealings today and will Test it again Tomorrow in Daylight. Pressure Test full with Water and compressed Air with 2 Atm was good. Max Pressure at the Label tells 1,5 Atm (Bar) and the Release Valve opens. Dont Panic. Steam Engine, the Up and down of the Release Valve....
Please explain a bit about this thing, I have read the wicipedia stuff and understand the principal. What was this and what was it used for.? Was it a test protertype or a thing designed for general use ? Cheers Rob

Hi Rob, @Robert Bruce . This one is a working laboratory model used for teaching purposes I believe. The real thing could be huge and was used industrially for rendering fats and glycerine from bones, and leaving porous, brittle bone which could then be easily ground up for bone-meal. Hello Gents, In my little town, a plant was built in 1880, producing gravy and tallow. It was known as a "Boiling Down Plant," and was built by an Englishman, William Nelson. I have found a description of his process, written in the mid 1880's by a Napier Daily Telegraph journalist, and have linked it here. I think it describes the apparatus used, and also the by-products, very well. Though not named per se, the description fits well with the Papin Digester that has been presented here. With the advent of refridgeration in shipping, the plant turned to slaughter and export of frozen mutton, becoming Tomoana Freezing Works. The first shipment of frozen carcasses were exported to the United Kingdom in 1884. The plant closed in 1994, after 114yrs of continuous production. At it's height of production, from the mid 1950's to closure, it slaughtered in excess of 1 million animals per year, employing up to 2200 workers in the full season. As an aside, I believe, but cannot confirm, that similar apparatus was used in the United States. I have read (cannot remember the source,) that Buffalo and Bison were hunted and boiled down for gravy. Perhaps some our US friends may be able to elaborate? Hi Mike, thanks for the link to a very well written and interesting article. No illustrations but the description allowed me to visulise the factory, extraction processes and surroundings. One of my interests is the history of commercial whaling, and the processes described in your article sound almost identical to those used in the huge factory ships employed from the early 20th century, up to the cessation of commmercial whaling in the early 1960s. These Factory ships utilised Norwegian Kvaerner Digesters and the end products were whale oil, bone meal, meat powder, and gravy concentrate. There was little wasted in the processing of the carcases. I found this extract and link to Kvaerner use in a shore-based whaling station which used to operate in NZ: "equipment at the whaling station include the concrete breastworks and factory floor, a Kvaerner digester which could process 25 tonnes of whale at a time, the steam boiler that drove the plant, the slipway up which the whales were hauled, bone saws and whale oil processing tanks." http://www.doc.govt.nz/news/media-r...n-celebration-of-whaling-station-restoration/ Best Regards, Kerophile
Its a little off topic but that whaling statin in the New Zealand article is still pretty much all there preserved as a historic place. If you travel from Welllington to Picton on the ferry it is just inside the Marlborough Sounds on your right and quite prominent. There are tours to it but Ive never bothered
Hello Kerophile, Yes, the digesters used at Tomoana were obviously modified to marry up with the the slaughter and cutting processes. Our local A & P (Agricultural and Pastoral) Showgrounds were once the pastures where they dumped the unwanted by-products. As a result, they were unusually fertile. Now, they are the place where town meets country annually, as well as the place where we hold our outdoor concerts, Farmers' Markets, equestrian gymkanas, and Festivals (of Lights, Christmas to New Year, and Guy Fawke's Night.) There were pictures of the plant, but they're hard to pull together. There are a few pages that explain a little of the company history, try this one. As to the Whaling Station, the Perano Station was the last to operate in New Zealand. There were dozens of them in the 19th century, several in and around Hawke's Bay, where I live. The original port of Napier, at Ahuriri, is still known as "The Iron Pot" to this day, for the whaling that took place there in the 1870's. Whalers were bigger contributors to the settlement of New Zealand than any other group, as they made the first significant connection with local Maori. Maori were heavily employed in the whaling stations. There's plenty of information available on the net, I hope it helps with your interest. Best regards, Mike.
