Here is one of my Taiwanese 8R clones. It has a rear-facing carry handle: Steel windshield: Optimus-copy control wheel: Chrome heat shield stamped "Made in Taiwan": Overall the workmanship is very good on this stove: Hex slot on the SRV: "Made in Taiwan/Republic of China" I didn't have to fettle the stove - it fired up first pop; and I don't intend to do anymore to it except car wax the box and tank because it will be used as my picnic stove for the table at the bottom of my block: Here it is up and running. As I "ran it in", the flame became progressively bluer (photos taken in shed in daylight): It boiled 1/2 litre of water in 3min 36 secs to a rolling boil: Overall, my assessment is: a solidly made 8R copy. Morning, @Tony Press , and All, I have one of those nice 8R clones, too, and like you, found it to be a very solid and workable stove. I love the windscreen that came as standard on this guys!! @boknasild asked about parts interchangeability. I seem to remember that not many, if any, parts will completely interchange with a regular 8R. It's been a while since I compared them, but I did pull out an 8R, my Taiwanese 9R clone, and my Taiwanese 99 clone, once, a long time ago, and seem to recall that the parts were just enough different that they did not easily interchange. @boknasild The burner bell is compatible with the Optimus 8R, but the nipple is larger than the Optimus, and the thread is not compatible. I don't think (from looking - not measuring) that the thread for the fuel line from the tank to the burner is compatible, either. Cheers Tony
Thanks Tony and Doc I also noticed that the penta screw on the SRV looks to be of a different size that the standard Optimus. That windsceen is a nice feature. If someone could make such a windscreen that would fit a Optimus 8/R I would order a few.
Hi Bjrn @boknasild The HEX screw in these SRV's has a metric thread (M8 x 0.75) where as the older PENTA screws have an imperial thread ( 0.304" x 36 tpi ), although the thread profile appears to be closer to 60 degree rather than 55 degree They look damn near identical to the eye but they do differ under an optical magnifier Cheers

Tony, can you tell me the purpose of that hole in the bottom of the wind shield ? (Pic 6) It's also slightly off centre Can't work out what it's for
@Longilily The hole has no purpose as far as I can see - and it is indeed off centre. If you turned it upside-down, you could attach the control key/wheel to it????? Like you, I was thinking about a brass version of this windshield. I am going to look around for brass strip that is the same width, pre-drill breathing holes, and fit one to one of my 8Rs. I'll measure it up for you and you could have a go over in the the old dart. Cheers Tony
