First of all, I'm new here! Been lurking and using this forum as a reference for stove purchases and knowlege recently, so I figured I would join and make a post. I live full time in my 1979 VW bus that I've converted into a camper of sorts, and light weight is the name of the game for everything. So naturally I find myself constantly looking at older stoves for their cost and usability in the van. I've been wanting a Trangia 27 set for some time now but havent been able to justify the $75+ Us dollars for a new one. Well I frequent my local used sporting goods shop and at my last visit I stumbled upon this. It wasn't put together and I had to spend a few minutes digging through a box of pots and pans to find all the pieces and spirit bruner but EVERYTHING was there. And after I had it put together, there was no price tag, I asked the clerk how much for the kit and he replied $6. $6!! I couldnt pass it up. Pretty decent condition, and I rather like the lone red pan! I can't say how pleased I am with this kit and for the price who could go wrong? Anybody know what year this kit may be from? Thanks! Ranger
Perhaps he thought you were asking for the price of just the strap. i wouldn't know about aqe. Do the two windscreens lock together, and is there a hole in the lower windscreen half for a fuel hose?
Hello, and welcome ! Nice piece of kit ! It seems to be unuse, or very few. I can't help you too much for dating, but it seems it is an ancient kit, with riveted belt ports, and an no stick pan, which isn't common.
He looked at the set and called it a "hodge Podge of pots and pans". Clearly had no idea what a gem I was holding. The windscreens do not lock together like the newer styles with the three indentations or "locking" tabs. But it does have the holes for the gas or multifuel burner hose.
Welcome and congratulations on your good fortune with that purchase. Seems to me I for one could learn something from someone who relies on a functional camp stove day-to-day rather than a (mostly) weekend stove user like myself. Couldn't get more functional than the Trangia. Call in any time RR and tell us more. John
Welcome to CCS. A fine catch worth keeping. Get the kettle for the kit, and it will all fit together.
Wow! $6 for a whole trangia 27! A massive bargain. although I inherited my trangia 25 from my dad, I know new trangia ones go for around £30-£40 so a good find! Archie.
During our one trip to Colorado we passed several used sporting goods stores. My wife said we needed to keep to our schedule if we wanted to see everything we drove 12 hours for so I didn't stop at any. I think she just knew I'd blow the budget on stoves and lanterns. If we ever get back there I'm definitely setting aside time for some stove hunting. Here in Oklahoma it's Coleman or nothing! Thanks for sharing and have fun with that Trangia. It's a daisy for sure.
