I have one of these in pristine, unused condition. I would like to use it. Anyone here know about a fuel line conversion kit, that is actually available today, that will allow me to use modern canisters for this stove? Please don't provide info about any homemade kits, I am not interested in that. Thanks.
No kits are available. You can: Refill an original cannister (after manufacturing the basic rig); Manufacture an adapter to allow you to use modern cannisters. Have a search on the site, the info is here. The twist is that the Hanks cannister is a liquid/wick-fed system, quite funky. They are great little stoves! Alec.
HI, Lawnman, Too bad you don't want to make a conversion kit for your Hank Roberts stove. There is wonderful info here on CCS as to how to go about that, and it's not a very hard thing to do. Once completed, you will be able to use your HR stove with modern cartridges, safely and with excellent reliability. Some years back, apparently, a new company (or person) bought the rights to manufacture the HR stoves, and they offered a conversion kit for sale. However, it appears that they did not last too long, as many of us tried to contact them after hearing of their kits, and they were already out of business, or so it seemed. Good luck in sourcing a kit you can buy, but be prepared to be very patient, as it will probably take a very long time to come to fruition. Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Presscall wrote: "Ok, no info, maybe just one photo though?" Hey, John, I got a huge grin out of this one, Mate!! Well done, my friend!! Great solution to the perplexing problem of keeping our Hank Roberts stoves up and running. I've got all the goods to accomplish the method that Ian M. (and Chuck W.) posted here on CCS, and just keep forgetting to do it! It's not hard, and should not take too long to get 'er done. Just have to get my single brain cell up and running....... Thanks, again, for the grin, and reminding me about this particular method for the HR stove! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Mark
My wife and I used a Gerry labeled version of the Hank Roberts for many years. Mostly on week-long car camping trips. Good for simmering, and put out a respectable amount of heat. Sensitive to wind. Would flame a bit while warming on freezing mornings and a few times I put the fuel canister in a thick wool sock and stuck it in the bottom of my sleeping bag. It helped. I managed to melt the plastic control knob by using an Outback Oven combined with a wind screen. Finally something clogged it and I decided to do exploratory surgery. I was not able to revive the patient and the remains were recycled. I still have one full bottle of fuel in my garage (Labeled Optimus International 702)- and you are welcome to it - but I have no idea how to ship a fuel canister, a 20 year old bottle no less.
One way to get a commercial Hank Roberts is to set up an eBay "save this search". They email you when something comes up for sale that matches your search for words. Unfortunately eBay search also finds unrelated stuff so I had to ignore one junk email every day from eBay daily about stuff that had little to do with stoves. Because their search engine thought it was a match. I just deleted the email. One every day. About a year later got an email from eBay was finely more to the point, that a Camp Pro stove was up for sale. These are like the Hank Roberts except they use modern fuel. I bought it immediately. But it was not a converter for true Hank Roberts stoves. About the only way to know when something comes up on eBay you are looking for. I set up two searches and one finally paid off: 1) Hank Roberts adaptor converter 2) Camp Pro stove
The guy's been selling the conversion kit for almost 2 years now. He first put it on eBay a $40 about 2 years ago and now it's down to $30 with free shipping. Item number is 162052036658 on ebay. com. Feel free to take a look. His customers are very happy as shown in the positive feedback he gets.
Yeah i realized that. I don't know why the site does that. It ask me where i am and i typed Los Angeles and then the rest is automated.
Hi John I am not doubting that you are in Los Angeles. The forum software detects where your Internet server is based and shows the flag for that location. But we have had some strange results.
I have design ready for Hank Roberts to use Lindal valve cartridges as original cartridges were used. I got brass from my brass depot for the work. I just need to make the adapter to test that it works ok. Only problem is that I don't have now big enough lathe to make the adapter... Maybe I try to make it with my watchmakers lathe.
Howdy, All, I've checked into doing this the easy way, and the guy on eBay, selling those "conversions", is most certainly taking that path. Whether his customers are happy, or not, I would not be thrilled with the "conversion" that he is selling, and told him so, when I sent a note about my safety concerns. I guess, for those that want to take that easy path, and are willing to accept a press-fit adapter, his "conversion" is a good thing...... or, IS it?!! Look what you can also buy on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Outdoor-Bur...479844?hash=item25ba113524:g:wXwAAOSwEK9W~h~a When I saw this stove, I was immediately struck by the similarity of the hose connector, to the one being offered as a HR "conversion". So, I bought this stove, just to see. Here's what you can get for far less than the "conversion", and you get the same thing, plus a stove to go with it, all for $11.25, plus $1.10 for shipping!! That connector surely does look familiar does it not? Let's take a closer look: When I removed the hose connector, look what I found: Yep, it's the same "conversion" that is being offered on the 'bay, and for far less money. Remove the jet, add two properly sized Nitrile o-rings, and VOILA, you're just made your own "conversion, and for a lot less coin! I had to think about whether to share this news, but in the end, decided to do so. Anyone else could easily have figured this out for themselves, had they given a few things some proper scrutiny and thought. I may, or may not, actually use this "conversion", just to see if it works as advertised. But, in truth, I'm already setup to do Chuck and Ian's excellent conversion, which is, IMHO, much more stable and safe. For what it's worth........ Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
