also looks in the photo like there's a hole punched in the middle of the burner plate..
hope that's not the case..something tells me i'm going to be buying some parts for this..

    Tim,

That's a 123 (not) R. Excellent score ! Now all you need to complete the "set" is a pot and handle. Burner plates I've seen differ somewhat in minor details. I think that is due to manufacturing variables. Some are more deeply dished, some have grooves of varying sizes stamped in the legs, that sort of thing. I have fashioned burner plates of .050 brass bought at a hobby shop. Some careful layout, tin snip and file work and you've got a working stove.

The picture seems to show a burner plate with a smudge of soot on it. Not a problem.

Refer to the FAQ section for lighting instructions, Pour in some fresh coleman fuel and have a go.

    Hey, Tim,

Outstanding buy, Lad!! I'd agree with Thuggy that your burner plate is one of those with the very deep dished-out dimple in the center, and I'd bet it doesn't have a hole in it. And, you got the very neat, and somewhat rare, Optimus folding pricker, too!!! YEAH!! =D> =D> :D

All in all, a fine deal at the price paid!!! Congrats, and let us know how it works, when it arrives. Even if it's in need of some tweaking, I'd bet it will work in no time, if not immediately!! Take care, and God Bless!

    Barra...

Be a little careful with that set up.

If the safety blows, it will blow hot liquid fuel instead of vapour!

A petrol stove blowing its valve is scary enough, but spewing liquid fuel I beleive would class it as a rocket and require registration with NASA or what ever space agency you have down there... :p

    Nice set up though

    Hi Guys,

Don't wanna stir things up after seeing the earlier pics, but the title (subject) was ment for this shining 123. It has never been lit and thats a dilemma for the present owner :( .

    |imgRemoved|
Shall I lite it, Shall I lite it, Shall I lite it, Shall I lite it, Shall I lite it, Shall I lite it, Shall I lite it, Shall I lite it, Shall I lite it, Shall I lite it, Shall I lite it, Shall I lite it, Shall I lite it, Shall I lite it, Shall I lite it?

But serious. What do you think? What shall we do (in general) with lets say 25 year old, never used, stoves?

I haven't got one (despite trying for over a year) so simply send it to me - dilemma over... ;)

Personally, there's no way I would light a minter - there are plenty of used ones for that...

That's also my feeling to it David. When I've time this weekend I'll make an almost in action picture (without blank, sterile background).

There is no dilemma here: it's mint, it stays mint. There are plenty of non-mint stoves out there so the is no need to change one from mint ot non-mint. Keep looking and you'll find a user.

    Hey, Peter,

Chances are that you will NEVER find such a wonderful, mint SVEA 123 again, in your lifetime!!! There are tons of used 123's knocking about, and you can easily find one, if you look a bit. Of course the choice is yours, but if you keep it mint, it will be one of a few like it. If you fire it up, it's just another used SVEA 123 and not special at all, anymore! There are those amongst us that find a stove only wonderful if it makes flame. I am one from the other camp: I love stoves to make flame, but I also very much appreciate a mint example of a stove that's hard to find, or for that matter, any mint stove!! I keep some of mine in mint condition, and those will NEVER be fired up, as long as they belong to me. I own plenty of others that can be fired up, anytime I wish to do so, without destroying the unique beauty of a mint, hard to find stove!! That's my take on it. But, again, the decision is yours to make. Were it mine, I would never even CONSIDER lighting it!!! Best of luck on your decision, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc Mark

You should first realize that there are many tempters lurking in this website. They serve the Beelzestove who rejoices in the lost virginity. Avoid them, and do not listen to their sweet talks.

Secondly, the problem you have is not whether you shall light it or not. You just do not have enough used 123's to keep you from going astray. If you had a platoon of 123s, you would not even consider lighting: You would have been impervious to the temptations.

Go and get sosme more used 123s. Or, if you really have to pop a stove cherry, get a new one that is manufactured recently.

    Leave the old maid alone!

Tim - Congratulations! =D> I'm glad you finally scored on a 123 AND it's not an R which is even better. That's a great buy! Excellent. I never was able to get over to the other store yet to check on that other 123. We had a series of half-day school days and had my hands full with my boys at home, not to mention all the other stuff on the schedule.

Be sure to let us know how it works when you get it, and pics would be highly appreciated. :D

Due to limited mobility, I waited until the wife went out, set up in the back room, and hoped I would finish before her return (I did), so, Sigg Tourist and a 123 and a bit of spag bol type grub

Part of the original idea, I believe.
Obviously we don't all have the exact same stoves, but by seeing such a concentration on the merits of one particular stove, then, we who don't have a Doc's sized collection can be motivated to search out that particular stove.

    So far, so geed guys.

Thanks for responding so positively, and keep it up.
Sunday, I'm out with the kids in a nearby forest .. photos to be posted late in the evening.

    Enjoy the 123
