I've had a few stoves on the back burner so to speak that needed minor repairs that I've put off due to lack of fettling skills and/or confidence/intimidation to tackle those repairs. However, since I'm retired, I finally hit them. A Prentiss Wabers #4 needed the fuel tank end cap removed, a tank strap rivet soldered from the inside and all then reattached. This had been sitting for a couple years, was not sure how to confront the repair, but finally settled on a process. Not a easy job, required a few "call backs" as the rivet did not want to seal up. Then, numerous old stoves likely need work when acquired. I recently acquired a Valor silent burner stove cheaply, burner was coked up, so replaced it with another I had, the NRV leaked, did not want to contact any stovie friends to ask them for help, so tackled that solder job, requiring the removal of the pump tube, unscrewing the end of the NRV, replacing the pip, resoldering the pump tube back in and hope all goes well and trying to get it lined up as originally lined up. The NRV was stuck in the pump tube and it looked like no one had come up with a new NRV tool in the style that was mentioned in a thread a few weeks ago. Last, I had a Radius 17 with that different (UFO) silent cap, has a intermittant leak above the burner tubes, but under the top rim. Was unable to get it up to temp to melt the silver solder in place (57%), but upon firing it up, ran with no issues. So hope it stays that way. Nothing left to do now, but rake leaves wait for the ground to dry out so I can rototill my garden. Duane

I say " use but not abuse " but searously there are a lot of interesting stoves and lantins about in junk shops and eBay at not a bad price. After your soldering job and NRV job fettling is easy now just take your time and if it seems difficult it's time for a think and fire up one of your others for a brew.
