I have an Optimus 8 I have used quite a few times, and yesterday the SRV (Cap) had a candle flame develop. I have some 5 mm pips I made so I went in to replace it. It was the original cork. I am amazed at how long those cork pips lasted.
I buggered one of my caps trying to get pent-head screw off with a homemade tool. Dammit. On another one, I placed a brand new pip I just bought-- and it still wouldn't hold pressure. As an experiment, I doubled up the pip-- placed two on top of each other-- it works just fine now. Holds pressure, but a tad harder to pump. I'd better buy a pent wrench, but I notice the pent heads on the A&H caps are bigger than the original.
The stove will run absolutely fine without a pump. Duane PS: The only small stove I have that has to be pumped up per the instructions is my 8R sized Optimus 10 Ranger, a kero version of sorts of the 8R. Love it.
Snow, I like the pump option. Especially in winter. Just leave it at that, thanks. At this point, I won't be buying after-market parts from A&H.
So this 'A&H' cap comes with a bigger Penta Screw ? So now I'm curious if 'A&H' sell the appropriate Penta key/wrench to suit ? If they do, then I assume it's a business call (you have to buy their wrench to suit their screw). If they don't then I wonder why the Penta is bigger Interesting
