hi all: got my new (old) Svea 123 kit from the postman today! (Not the one I bought from that creepy bad ebay seller). I really wanted one so I barfed up $50 bucks for a buy it now stove. It came tarnished, but no dents or deformed parts, and with the windscreen, key + chain, pot + handle and folding pricker. It's a non-R stove so I was quite happy with the whole package. what a very cool, great little stove. i know now why this stove has a special place in the hearts of all of you. I went to a local park today for lunch and struggled to fire up my 00 in a pretty stiff wind (with the windscreen) in place and keep it lit. it took me about 10 minutes of messing around to get her going at full roar enough to boil a pot of soup.. after I got the soup on the Optimus 00, I fueled up the 123 with coleman fuel, dropped some meths in the tank depression after warming up the tank with my hands, lit the meths, opened the key a bit after it heated, some fuel squirted out and caught fire, and viola, the stove lit, huffed and puffed and spit and spat a bit, then roared to a full blue steady and strong flame!! the stove burned without a hitch in the stiff wind. totally impressed with this tiny powerhouse, and I like how there are no parts to lose, no wrenches to torque down the burner, no messing around. This is all good fun when I'm in the backyard on the picnic table on Sat. morning making coffee for shietz + giggles. in the field i can see that the Svea will probably end up being my favorite. Svea 123...very cool little piece.. regards, and i wish everyone a nice + safe weekend.. see you all monday.. tim
Congrats Tim! Welcome to the 123 fold. After buying one like that, you'll probably start running across the occasional 123 in the wild now. And if you are like me, you'll have trouble resisting any that don't cost much. Enjoy, and I hope you can post a pic or two next time you use it.
yep i'll be sure to get some pics... been doing lunch almost everyday now for a few weeks using my Optimus 00. I've been leaving my digicam at home, I'll have to bring it along and shoot some pics!! tickled with the 123 though. really neat little stove tim
Tim, you don't have to heat the tank with your hands if your using meths, and is does not matter if you spill a little meths on the tank (unless you are on flammable ground)
Hi Tim Hope you saw all the chat and pics of the Svea 123 weekend. Welcome to the 123 fan club. |imgRemoved|
Hey, Tim, Way to go, Lad!! Congrats on securing your very first SVEA 123, and with all the proper goodies, too!! Like Sketch has predicted, I, too, think you will have a hard time passing by any other SVEA's that you find "in the wild"!! I used to have around 30 of them, but have given away, or traded, the bulk of those and only have a few left. I'm sure that you, like the rest of us, will love this little Classic!!! Again, congrats, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc Mark
