Here is my contribution to keep inflation low and prices down in the stove market.
A brand new un-solied, never lit Optimus 8R Hunter. Isn't beautiful and pristine?

Alas, not only is a stove un-lit like a motorcycle never ridden but it's wasteful of the energy and materials consumed to manufacturer it. Hence I had to fire it up and boil water for a cup of tea.

Baby come and light my fire......

    regards,
    Alan

    Morning, Alan, and All,

Very nice stove, and nice flame, too! I have one 8R that will never be lit, and 6-8 that I use, when I want to do so! Doing that, I enjoy the best of both worlds! ;) :D Congrats on your new 8R! Good price? Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc Mark

    Hi to you Doc :)
Not a great price but fine for a new one with box and intructions etc.
I probably won't take this one out much, I have battered example for that. It also came with a nice bespoke soft carry case :)
I think Coleman lanterns are beautiful but their stoves are pug ugly. But I like ugly metal things so no problems. I think the Feather 442 is an example of an ugly and yet functional stove that I find fascinating.
    Best wishes,
    Alan :)

alan, you can still pick them up online for about ?50 new if you want one just to look at. I think A&H are selling them for $90. Have you picked up a Russian clone yet? great stove like the 8R, but only about ?25 including postage from a German seller on eBay 8)

I have not met a woman who missed her virginity. I do believe that you are putting the stove to the intended use the creator intended.

However, I do have a couple unfired 8R's and they are going to remain that way, and will be part of the 70 virgins who will greet those who arrive in the stove heaven. After that, I don't care how many share their stoves how many times. :) :D

I've given the question of "to light or not to light" a lot of thought this past couple of weeks, and have realised that my rule of always lighting a stove is because I'm not a true stove collector, I'm more a stove gatherer. To me, a stove or lamp is just a tool, as simple as that, not to be looked at, but used. That said, some of you have fantastic collections and so I can now see why some of you are reluctant to burn a new stove.

So, in short, my answer to the question of "to light or not to light" will always be the same, but don't take that as a personal gripe at any of you, its only my view :)

This is not easy, but when does this collection of metal became a stove for sure?

I t reminds me of another question.

Is it possible to be just a little pregnant?

I won't try to change anyones opinion on to lite or not to lite. I choose to save certain pieces in unlit condition because they can only be in new pristeen condition once. I have a few that have gone from the box to the shelf. I have no ambiton to deflower them nor do I feel I am wasting them. Every tool or appliance has a useable life and I opt to postpone the start of that life. Let the next guy soot them up after I am gone. Dan
