    Comrades,
I have aquired a Valor No.5. I have had a go at firing it up today. The heat output seems very poor to my mind. There is pressure, no leaks, pump leather etc all fine. Jet is clear. Pre-heating done as per instructions. Fresh fuel, paraffin added. The flame is a lovely blue when given just one or two pumps but if I give three more it turns all yellow. With a mainly blue flame and a hint of yellow it boils a small Trangia kettle in around five 5 mins'.
Do fellow owners think this is normal or do I have a problem? Oh and it is a silent burner.
    Best wishes,
    Alan

Wot Henry said, + a small trangia kettle wont give good boil times - - most of the heat goes up the out side.

    Hey, Alan,

I agree with Henry and JC had to say, and might add that you can check your cleaning needle, to see if it's not seated as low as it should be. I like to seat mine about 4-5 clicks down into their tracks. If your needle is not seated low enough, you may be getting too much pressure for the amount of fuel that's allowed to flow through the nipple. I had a SVEA 123R that was like that. Once I reinstalled the needle, a few more clicks down into it's track, the stove roared with a much more lusty voice, than before. Just a thought. I'd certainly install a new nipple, if you have one, and procure one, if you don't. Good luck, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc Mark

Yeah - nipple. A sorted No.5 will turn out to be your favourite car-camp stove.

I think Alan may have meant a 55? so no in-built cleaning needle. If it is the 55, its a good solid stove, and sounds like the nipple has gone?

    Hi Alan

As Rick said, did you mean a Valor No. 55?
If so it will be a silent burner with no internal cleaning needle.

pm me if you require a new nipple. |imgRemoved|

    Comrades,
    yes it's a 55, silly me
I had a close look at the flame diffuser cap, it's not a Valor item but from a Meva. I changed this for one from an Optimus Hiker and it burns better but I still can't give it full throttle, yellow flame returns. I think a new nipple would help and I'll see if I can find a genuine Valor cap.
Thanks for everyone's helpful advice kind words :)
    Regards,
    Alan

I'm not sure the cap will make too much difference.
I've swapped and changed silent outer caps around many times and it didn't seem to make any difference at all.

I think you are right Henry but the Optimus one did help a little. I quite like this Valor. I do hope I can get it working better than it is right now. I own a Hipolito with a roarer burner, very similar size etc which is a real powerhouse and pretty too :) But that roarer burner is sooooo loud! :x
    Best wishes,
    Alan

Iv'e got a bluflam stove which had simular problems.
Though I had the tanks and burner clean.
would start up lke yours. blue flame pump up a bit and go yellow.
Cleaned with carby cleaner a couple of times and heated up and blew out when light red with air hose.
Keeps the carbon alive a you get more bits out.
After it was spottless and I think well clear I tried agian.
    No luck.
Tried caps and the optimus ones worked the best.
In the end it was the seal not providing a compllete seal and a small amount of vapour would mingle up in to the burner making it go yellow.
leaked alittle more nder greater pressure!!!
cleaned up mating surfaces with fine ermery cloth on sheet of glass.
Seal up better. No more problems.
Is abit contactorous to start if a wishper of wind blows the metho away from the tubes when pre heating.
So I made a windcreen for the burner.
    Works 100% now.
With the orignal caps that I don't think are the right ones.
Just need to let it run for a minute or two to heat right up to optimum temp before I pump up.

I did put a alcool nipple in it and ran it for awhile.
It gets a good hammer effect going and I don't know if it is realy safe thing to do but it was increadable the amount of crap that came out of the tank afterwards.
Note if you try this be real carefull in the venting. The pulsing will make the tank hot thought blowing back vapors and fuel.

Runs like a new one now!!! with kero in it.

Must be better eaier ways to fix a quiet burner though!!!
