Hi all, I just got an Optimus 80 from E-bay, it was not in the best of shapes. I cleaned the jet, replaced the filler cap seal, flushed the tank a couple of times with clean white gas, dunked it in warm water to check for air leaks, all checked out. I turned it on, no problem at all, it ran strong, almost too strong. Let it run for 20 minutes, no problem. I was going to shut it off and then i saw flame through the filler cap. Turned it off immediately and put an aluminum pot over it to deprive it of oxygen. Stove is off and now to repairing the valve... Are the inner parts the same as those of a Svea 123 / 123R valve? I have an extra one from a 123R but it is obviously a different style, would like to keep it all original if at all possible. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Aaron
Your SRV (safety release valve) inside the filler cap probably needs a new PIP. The PIP is that little rubber barrel inside the cap. If hard, replace it. Should be the same size as your 123 PIP. Fettlebox sells them or you can make one with some 2-3mm viton and a punch. It could also be the spring holding it in place needs more compression. Generally these last for decades and can be stretched out a tad for new life. Jerry
Thanks Metro, I have both the 123 and Opt 80 in some denatured alcohol to loosen them up. I am impatient, can hardly wait for another 24-48 hours. I appreciate the feedback! Aaron
Thanks again, was able to change the cap washer with one from a Russian 8R clone. Had a spare one. Worked fine, no air leak, back in business. The valve was filthy inside but all good now. Thanks again, Aaron
