So I lost the top cup and handle to my SVEA 123 knockoff (235 PAK COOK) and I came up with a solution! I found that a cheapo stainless steel cup from Walmart's camping section could fit on just fine. Plus, it works much better than the original aluminum cup!! It fits on very tight so I just squeeze the sides of the cup and it easily slides on and off the stove. Check it out and tell me what you think.
I got same cup from Germany few years ago. It was on sale with Tatonka name: http://www.tatonka.com/en/Outdoor-Kitchen-Cookware-Handle-Mug/4072 Snow Peak's mug 600 might work also ok for 123 (I haven't tested (yet)): https://snowpeak.com/collections/dr...-single-600-wall-cup-mg-044?variant=671141045
Great timing! I just saw that cup at WM yesterday and though it looked too small in diameter. I'll have to go back for it. $5.50US, if I recall. ....Arch
yep, i bought a couple of these $4.99 cups a few months ago. checked it out after reading this post and it is a good fit, and yes it is better than the original Al. cup.
Take your stove with you when you buy the cup. Fitting is very-very tight (at least on my 123). Maybe it is better to test how it fits before you buy it (just to be sure that it fits ok)
I'll have to put it on the stove and then put it in the refrigerator for awhile, and see if I can get it off. It would be a real pain on a cold day in the field to find that differential contraction of the two metals in the cold prevented separation of the parts. ....Arch
Here's a little diagram of what I do to get the lid on and off with ease on my stove. I firmly squeeze the cup perpendicular to where the chain is located on the stove. The star in the picture represents the chain, and the arrows are where you squeeze the cup. Try it out and see if it's easier!
Coleman makes a cook set that holds a Svea 123 just perfect. It has a few pots too many to house the Svea so you get a extra pot and lid.
There is a variety of similar sets on eBay for generic chinese "non stick" or anodised coated aluminium camping pan sets, which look like they would fit around a 123. I went to a local budget camping shop (GO Outdoors - in the UK) with my 123 in a clean poly bag, and test-fitted it into various cheap pan sets until I found one that was "just right". It only cost £10 (at the time that was about $15 but these days it could be anything).
Another tip for cheap camping gear. IKEA DUKTIG childrens stainless steel cooking set. 10USD for some stainless steel pans.
I picked up the WalMart cup and, strange to say, it's not a tight fit on my Svea 123 windscreen at all. In fact, it's looser than the cup that came with the 123. Re-reading this post, I see @BenniHanna put it on a Svea clone made by Pak Cook. It must be a slightly larger diameter than the Svea. But I also see that @Afterburner said it was a tight fit on his 123. Strange... It is a reasonable fit on my Svea. (It's a little bit loose and rattles some, but acceptable.) It is a better cup than the Svea one, and you can't lose the handle. ....Arch
I have two of the Walmart $5 cups, slightly different, one fits my svea123's really tight and the other a fair bit loosed.
Well, you are way ahead of me... I just bought a 235 PAK COOK for 25 bucks - just the burner part, it did not have the cover, Etc. BUT I'll try to get it to run. Any suggestions before I set fire to my tool shed?
Yes. Test it outside on a non-flammable surface, rather than inside your tool shed. It helps to also have a metal bucket handy to smother the flames if it gets out of control. ….Arch
@BenniHanna You have helped me a lot with your post. I have been looking for a 95mm small pan for my Pak Cook '123'. Online shops have lots of 100 mm one but not what I wanted. In the end I built a container out of 100 mm plastic piping. A similar container but with a screw cap fits my M1950 too. Now I will try to use one of the ideas from this thread. Many thanks
I've found my MSR Trail Mini Solo fits like a glove on the SVEA 123 and has the added benefit of the plastic cup (as long as you don't melt it). The bag from the MSR is a little snug, but Snow Peak's bags are so massive compared to the mugs that I'm glad to have finally found a use for one of them and it holds the plastic lid perfectly.
