Hmmmm, that doesn't seem right. Can you post a photo of the NRV?

I have not been in this that long, but, that's the first Swedish Stove NRV that I have seen with a slot for a screwdriver.

Mine is marked "Sweden" on the chrome bit. Judging by the pip, I think mine is a late "Optimus" part.

Mine is stamped Sweden on the shaft. Tony looks like yours would take a screwdriver bit as well.

I could, but I would be very reluctant to use a screwdriver on an NRV like this in case it was stuck fast and the screwdriver just parted the soft brass on either side of the slot. I've stopped using a screwdriver on the bottom end of Primus-type NRVs after having one split open. I now hold the bottom end tight in a drill chuck and use the NRV tool on the other end.

    Cheers

I looked for the tool on ebay but no avail. I'm thinking that the handle would fit as it fits the jet and the jet I think is almost the same size. I actually might make a tool at my work to fit the valve. I see your point though, if I stripped it I would be screwed.

    G,,day
i have 6 genuine Optimus repair kits .
all have screwdriver slots in the top of the NRV .
they undo easily because they use HDPE sealing washers , instead of lead .
the lead binds , the HDPE does not .

    kerry

ps , the correct tool is still the better option .

Very interesting. The NRV wasn't really too tight. I have had Coleman check valves almost impossible to come out.

Ok, are these later rather than older NRVs?
That might explain it, I only have old stuff except for the few I bought off of ebay last year.

I didn't go to my Moms to look for the part today as the stove works Ok but to be safe I want to replace the NRV. I had a Rogers M 1950 stove that actually scared me, as it turned into a fireball due to a worn out rubber gasket. I actually had to put it in a metal garbage can and put the lid on to extinguish it.

Wow! Sounds crazy scary. Hopefully no kerosene burner would turn into a fireball like that. Amazing how the little gremlins steal small parts, isn't it?

I have it somewhere but will find it or I have to wait for the new part I ordered yesterday. Yes it was scary as I found out our extinguisher was not working. Now I have a powered one to use.

Ok I found the check valve but it has the lead washer and non slotted head, so I will have to make a tool to fit this. The check valve is shorter-would that matter?

As long as the threads are ok that should be fine. But you could take the pip and pip cup from one and put it in the other. Give the spring a little (little) stretch.

    Cheers

Thanks Tony yes they look the same. I stretched the spring on the part I took out.

If you stretch the spring before you test it, you can't un-stretch it.
