Progress report on the Vesuvius 400. The Check Valve freed up! It took days of submersion within the Pump, in both PB Blaster and then another drowning in Isopropyl Alcohol for a number of days to do it. When I had given up and let it sit drained for another couple days and then tried it for the heck of it again, by gosh, it gave! I proceeded to pressurize the Fount and while doing so and leaning over the Burners, I soon felt a flow of air from one of the Burner Jets! I quickly searched out a pricker (turns out I needed a .006" wire!) and cleaned the other 2 remaining/functioning Jets and before long, one at a time they started releasing air from the Fount, as well! Sure wish the P.O. hadn't jammed that machine screw in the fourth! I wonder what went wrong, that lead them to do so? Well, I'll take 3 out of four, for now! Going to give the internal Fount a thorough cleaning next and try and get the Burner Assy's apart. Will measure the Burner Cones and try and fabricate some temporary Flame Spreaders. I'm leaning towards converting the Burners to the Silent Burner type in the future, as Primus 100 Silent Burner components will fit the Vesuvius. Many steps closer now, to the re-firing of a Vesuvius No. 400!

    Howdy, @Stovost ,

I've not been able to visit, lately, but was pleased to find your "alert" today, when checking in at CCS! Well done on your successful fettling, so far! Going the silent route might be a great thing, but it if was me, I'd still want to have four proper burner plates, too, just because!! Here's a quick snap of the repro burners I got from an esteemed member here at CCS.

You can see that these plates are big and beefy, and should work a treat. I wish you the best in sourcing out such items for your most excellent #400!! Thanks, again, for keeping me in the loop. Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

P.S. I took the pic with my new iPhone, and sent it to myself. Then, after saving it, posted it here! Sometimes technology is a wonderful thing!!!

    Doc Mark,

Can you share with me, the name of the esteemed member who supplied you with the repro flame spreaders? I'd prefer to go with items as close to original as possible and thus would rather the Flame Spreaders. The Silent Burner alternative, is my second choice, if OEM, or close to it, is not possible.

Congrats on "conquering" today's modern technology, too!

    Hi, @Stovost ,

I was thinking I'd already mentioned that info to you, but if not, I bought four of the wonderful and robust burner plates from Stu @loco7stove , and they were very much worth their cost, and the time it took to get them!! Have you contacted Stu about your needs? He may be very busy, which is usual for him, as it is for me. But, I'd drop him a note, and see if he's offering these again, or if he has some in stock he can sell you. His stuff is top of the line!!

By the way, failing that, you might give Gary (BernieDawg) a call. I seem to recall that he, too, makes some flame plates for the Model 100 Optimus stoves, and those should also fit your Vesuvius #400.

Best of luck, and please keep in touch to let me now how this turns out for you. Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

Well, I'm still hoping to acquire the necessary Flame Spreaders and the missing Burner Jet, but in the mean time, I just had to shine it up some! Enjoy the pics!

[QUOTE I'd rather fix my stoves up then part them out. Sorry.

    Ben[/QUOTE]

Any possibility then, of me purchasing one of your Stoves in it's entirety?

@Stovost I searched around my stash of stoves and found these two Vesuvius "parts" stoves. All three burners have their jets intact. Can remove one of the jets on your stove and try it in the burner that's missing it's jet. If the threads are intact, I'll send you one of these jets.

@Stovost let me know if you find a source of flame plates. I've got another Vesuvius 200 that needs a couple.

    Ben,
That would be so great if you could do that! Please let me know and I'll send you my address. Also, no current suppliers of Flame Spreaders, have them in stock. One is planning on making some more in the future (A great guy on eBay) and the other, will do so if he can get enough interest. I'll send you that gentleman's info. He's a CCS Member. I'll send you the eBay gentleman's info, as well!

So nice of you to take the time to check out the Jet for me. Please let me know what you find out.

    Ben,

Here's the CCS member info with the Flame Spreaders, who'll forge some, if he has enough interest:
    loco7stove

Here's the eBay Gentleman's info, who is going to make some in the future:
    http://stores.ebay.com/PRIMUS-STOVE-and-TILLEY-LAMPS?_trksid=p2047675.l2563

Might I suggest, that you contact them both, to put a little flame under them?

    Good luck,

    Steve
