I bought an almost mint condition Optimus 199 from a relative of mine. It's the stove I have been wanting for a long time.

I inspected it, checked for leaks, replaced the fuel cap seal, flushed the tank and put fresh kerosene in it.
Inspected the burner, burner caps, all seemed great.

Lit it, solid yellow flame then underburn. Turned it off, tried again, same thing. I decided to try with one of the caps from an Optimus 182 as they are identical

I got perfect blue flame with them.

I inspected both caps, both very clean, no damage at all, same brand same undercap. So frustrating....

Same thing with a Primus 5, hates it's own caps, but works awesome with another set.

    Just venting, sorry.....

Look on the bright side. You know what the trouble is. :)

    Duran,
Vent! and I hope you feel better.

Congrats on scoring the 199 !!!

IF you're just venting "venting, ...damn stove" would make for a good ongoing post for the lounge imo ("damn 550" me).
AND occasional finicky silent burner are a source of plenty of frustration for sure!

That said, we know for one you would want the "original 199" w/o yellow flame and working well. Given that it works w/other caps, sounds like you're close to having that sorted. I wish you well. thx omc

True that Ken, but took a bit to get there. On to modifying burners now...
    Hope you are well

OMC, I hear you. Like Ken said, at least I know the problem. Should not be hard to remedy now.

    Problem with a 199 trumps "Not having a 199".

I have a Campingo 1 that I am in the long term repair mode. No complaints, I have 2 others working and a Campingo 2.

as the 199 is self pressurising they run on coleman fuel , shellite etc .
you said you filled it with kerosene .
try CF and see how it goes

I think you might be thinking the 99 not 199
