I recently acquired a Petromax brass stove from a scrap shop. I got it fired up but it seems to have abnormally uneven yellow flame

Any help in fixing the problem would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

The large yellow flame suggests the jet is too large (or is it possible your kerosene is contaminated with some diesel etc. Perhaps something left in the stove by a previous owner?).

The lopsided flame could also be a jet problem, but it can also be due to a less than straight burner so that the gas vapor is shooting off center a bit.

What have you done so far? I'd start by cleaning the jet carefully, and maybe try some fresh kerosene if the stuff you used is of unknown quality. Then if the burner looks straight to you, you may have to find a new jet. Finding and replacing a jet should not be too difficult, but, IMO, it is not the first thing to try.

Hi i go do exactly as itchy explains, if you change the nipple and it burns a nice blue but lopped sided then the burner or jet socket is out of centre, this can be corrected by gently tweaking the burner to centre it
