    Hi everyone!

Has anyone tried using diesel on the new (newer) Optimus Hiker + ?
I was curious as to how it performs.

    Thanks,

    Aaron

Once I tried Primus Omnifuel (first version) with diesel as it should run also with diesel. It worked quite ok. It needed more preheating to get it running. First I needed to run it with small flame to get burner hot otherwise it made big flare and lots of soot. Diesel caused a bit of soot build up into burner & pots.

Kerosene and white gas/gasoline are more easy to use and they don't soot so I have used them.

I've used the older, though post Katadyne, Nova on diesel. Same burner as the Hiker, I believe. Bear to preheat but would eventually run, orange tips to the flame and left an oily residue on the kettle. Would carbon up after a couple tanks and require cleaning. While it ran, I would consider it an emergency fuel and not something for long term use.

I looked into it to consolidate fuels while adventuring, use the same fuel my truck burns. Easier to just pack a couple gallons of kero, and if you get in a tight spot for vehicle fuel, you can still run a diesel on kerosene.

If you're looking for a stove that will burn diesel, the mop-wick stoves and sad iron heaters will do so with no discernible difference from kero. So will Dietz or most wick lanterns.

Thank you all! That's exactly what i was trying to do, consolidate fuels as my diesel truck. Will just stick to bringing some kero with me.

At least the kero could be dumped in the truck, opposite of what you wanted.
