Just dug an old Coleman 530 out of my garage after seeing one on this site.I cant even remember where it came from.It looks like it may have been in a fire.And there is a glob of solder rattling around in the tank.The lever for the jet cleaner is broke in half and all the seals are gone.Should I try to fix this or should I just toss it into a parts box and move on?It also looks like the pump body is sticking out of the tankabout an inch farther then it should.
All the parts you need are pretty readily available, the 530 is pretty easy to work on and they're good stoves when they're working right. Try old coleman parts (OCP) first for gaskets, pump leather, valve packing (if needed) and the pricker lever. For anything Mike at OCP doesn't have, post a Wanted to Buy message in the Classified section of the Coleman Collector's Forum (CCF). Plenty of "how to" threads on the CCF as well. Figured out where the solder came from.This stove had to have been in a fire.The pump body looked like it was sticking up too far.And it was.The solder came from the solder joint where the pump body is soldered to the tank.
What type of solder should I use?I have Just about every kind of solder you can think of.Plumbers solder,real lead solder,electrical,silver.

Yes, soft solder will work, 60/40, 50/50 etc. The trick is going to be getting everything super clean. I'd pull the pump tube all the was out since it's already loose and use that as an opportunity to clean the inside of the fount thoroughly.
The pump body has a tube attached to the bottom that curves upward. When you try to pull the pump body out it only comes out so far before the tube is up against the inside top of the tank.How do you get the pump body out of the tank for cleaning before soldering it back into place?
Though this application is on a Coleman 500, you're referring to that air tube at the end of the pump. Clearly you can't remove it entirely. I suggest you withdraw it sufficiently to clean the mating surface on the pump to take the solder. Difficulty though will be cleaning the other mating surface on the rim of the tank. The gap between pump and tank hole rim is likely to be too tight to get a sliver of abrasive paper in there. An abrasive paste (a fine grade auto valve grinding paste) would probably penetrate and it could be cleaned off with a suitable solvent before fluxing the joint and soldering Failing that, or in addition to be sure, I suggest you rely on cleaning the outside lip of the hole rim and ensure that that and the cleaned pump surface are coated with flux and solder applied to those surfaces as a fillet.
I decided not to fix the 530.After really inspecting it I found all the solder joints to be compromised and the heat from the fire had distorted the tank pretty bad.So I'm going to mount the burner on a lantern tank and once that is done I'll figure out a way to put a pot holder assembly over the burner.
