Just found this site. I have couple of paraffin stoves and the 8R petrol one. I picked them up a couple of years ago at boot sales. Just repainting the cases and polishing the metal. They work fine but I don't know if the 111 should be using petrol or paraffin, it seems to run OK on both. Anyone know??

    Hi Tezz,
We prefer paraffin/kerosene in our 111's here. As you've seen, the stove can handle both but the burner is the classic kerosene style burner and specifically designed for it. For safety reasons if you run petrol and the pump valve fails the pump tube can fill with fuel and spill out and can ignite and cause a flare up. Kerosene will not do that. I don't know how UK petrol differs from US gasoline but our stuff can clog up the burner so I would not advise it's use.

    Welcome to CCS,
    Ray

Welcome. Four vertical burner tubes means paraffin/kerosene and 2 vertical tubes means petrol/white gas/coleman fuel.

The 111B was designed to run on white gas. The 111 was designed to burn kerosene. If your burner has 2 tubes it is the B model and should be used with white gas. If it has 4 tubes, it is designed to run on kerosene or paraffin. The issue with burning white gas in these stoves is that the non return valve (NRV) is a simple spring loaded pip. If it fails it could allow pressurized fuel to jet out the pump tube making a flame thrower. For gas appliances, the Coleman system is far safer. If you have the B model just make sure the NRV pip and spring are fresh, soft, and in good condition. If the pump rises when pressurized in the "viagra" effect, it is leaking and should not be used until repaired.

The 111's are great. Does yours have the silent or roarer burner?

Temporary relief when watching a stove burn, when fettling one, when thinking about one, when listening to someone else talk about one, when reading about one, when smelling fuel, when ......... On and on!

I had to laugh at snwcmpr's Stove pox. I have just come in from the shop where I was fettling a Meva alcohol stove while running my Turn Sport and thinking about the tune up on my newly acquired Optimus 99. My girl says I'm a nerd. Well?

She's wrong. I have about 60 classic stoves, and I am definitely not a nerd. Other things, perhaps.

Counting is a waste of time, they reproduce when left alone.

And I might add that I only have 12 lanterns. I definitely do not collect lanterns.
