    Hey, Danta,

Welcome to CCS!! Your stove looks very similar to the Handi Stovette. Those stoves, like the SVEA's, were mostly kero burners. BUT, you could quite easily modify one to burn Meths, and I've played around with that, a bit. If yours has a Meths jet, you won't get it to burn with kero, or at least, not very well.

Check out your jet, and see if it's marked in anyway. Sometimes the Optimus Meths jets have an "A", for "Alcohol", scratched, or engraved, on them. I've seen SVEA Meths jets with a large "S" on them, for "Spirit", most of the time right on top of the jet, next to the actual orifice.

Don't give up on yours, as I'm certain you will get it up and running in no time!! Have fun, be safe, and God Bless!!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc Mark

Welcome aboard the ship of pyros, Danta. Nice stove! That splashy yellow flame speaks to me of either too much fuel or not enough air, you could either try running it on meths or swap the jet for a smaller one borrowed from a 111 or such like. There is a bunch of info to be had here abouts, undoubtedly a solution can be worked out

looks like my Coleman fuel Wisperlite when i tryed to run it on kero..
if we could see the burner when its not engulfed in flame we might get a better idea
of the fuel it really burns..

Link shows what looks very like the alcohol restrictor from a 111T dropped down the centre of the burner - Suggesting that someone has tried to convert this to alcohol....

    1. Remove the drop-in restrictor tube.
    2. the Jet may have been changed to one for alcohol revert this to a standard Kero job.

    Alternatively

Pour out the kero and try it on meths....

    Just my tuppenceworth.

    Welcome :D :D :D

Looks like a kero jobby to me. :D
Doug has a point about the restrictor, take it out and give it a try. ~nothing to loose, only your eyebrows ;)
Even if it has a huge jet in there you should get some sort of proper burn.

I didn't notice an inner cap anywhere in the pics :? , that'd make it burn like a dog without one ;)

Not a handi stovette I think fellas.
    Right about the restrictor though!!
Sure you got the caps on it??
    Dumb question but who knows.
Could be out of a boat though so it maybe geared up for metho.

I'd try metho danta see how it goes.
Have hose ready out the back though!!!

Looks like a Svea stove to me.

Take out the restrictor and give it another try.

If that does not work it probably has the nipple meant for meths. So do as Doug says. Clean out the paraffin, refill with meths, put the restrictor back in and give it a go.

Does the stove have the inner burner cap as well as the outer?

thanks to all who tossed in their bits of advice....
i probably should have mentioned the stove originally came from a boat... heh
removing the restrictor worked well, stilll a little rich using kero, but much better than the fire ball i had before. it ran better much better when using the proper fuel--meths

will post a final pic when i get the rust off the frame and unspent kero off the burner .
    thanks again
