dunno - I didn't realise they has so many numbers until I read up some of the stuff on it, I rescued it from a scout stores along with a big black iron frypan that was very neglected as they all cooked on alu now. replaced the generator pipe thingy and it works fine though with three burners going somewhat underpowered when used outdoors. I wish I'd got the oven for it when a local shop was closing down. equivalent of 20 bucks at the time.
@crazydave789 , If your 426 is "somewhat underpowered when used outdoors", then something is wrong with it. I have five of those 426 stoves, from various years, and they are all screamers, when on full power. Maybe you're not pumping enough, or the fuel is wrong. But, your 426 main burner is a very powerful and strong one. I've cooked up a huge pot of lobsters (at Christmas) on one 426, outside on the front deck, and had to shovel off a place in the deep snow to place the stove! Boiled up those lobster quite nicely, even though it was super windy, and we had deep snow. Oh, and we live at 5,000 ft in elevation, too. So, your 426 stove should have NO problems at all being a powerhouse for you, indoors, outdoors, anyplace!! For what it's worth....... Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
main ring yes but if you use the two side ones as well it suffers. its not so good at big boils, we tried to do a billy of hot dogs on it and it took forever. that said I cant remember if that was before or after the tube failed. we took it away and it died on us so I popped cans full of meths under the pot stands then fixed it when we got home. not so easy finding spares back then in the uk. still not great as they weren't really a fixture of uk camping
@crazydave789 , Yes, if you are using all three burners, the power does go down. BUT, add in about 100 more pumps, and VOILA, nice and powerful, once again!! All of mine are like that, as is every other 426 I've ever seen. So, if your's is not powerful enough, even with all three burners going, some is DEFINITELY wrong with it, or you're simply not pumping enough. For what it's worth, we've cooked many a fine meal on 426 stoves, in good weather, not so good weather, and horrible weather, and the 426 does a stellar job of it!! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
I think you will be very happy with your choice and the fact they both fit into an ammo can is a bonus.
So these 2 cute critters turned up in the mail today :-) 550B´s 03-97 and 10-99 Fueled them and both fired up straightaway :-) Simmers fine and IMO a nicer/more stable stove than the 442 (although maybe not so powerfull). They will be living in this amobox. And it seems like the good luck is turning my way now . A 502 turned up online And I was fast enough to get my hands on it. Will be here soon....
@HunterStovie Yes it´s going to be a really nice setup i think - The 502 is a bonus - good price and it seems to look good.
@Danskeren , You are more than welcome, Sir! SB and I used the 550 stove on the first 850 miles of our PCT backpacking journey, many years back, after a "certain other stove" failed us miserably. We were burning kerosene, and when we bought our first 550B, we changed out the generator for the one dedicated to kero. We did use priming paste underneath the generator, especially in the cold, and that stove ever let us down. It will works to this very day. Now, I will have to tell you about another product that works nicely with the 550 stoves: A special windscreen, made by Sigg, and usable with their excellent Sigg Tourist Cook Set. These windscreens can still be found, though you may have to file slots in some of them, to make them fit the 550 stoves, as shown above. Some of these kits were made for other stoves, but also work with the 550's, if you file the slots as needed. For those that were actually made for the Coleman stoves, the slots were done at the factory. These windsceens, combined with the Sigg Tourist set, are fantastic. Something to keep in mind...... Again, congratulations, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
@Jeopardy Give @Doc Mark a chance, he has to find the others and take them out of the boxes. He's currently in Hobbit Hole 2 according to GPS readings.
@Danskeren , The inside measurement is about 7 1/4" ID. This is big enough to fit the largest pot that comes with the Sigg Tourist cook sets. @Jeopardy , @Simes , You Gents are too much!! NOW, go to your rooms and contemplate the errors of your ways.....!! Thanks for the laugh! Oh, and for the record, I once had 6-7 of the 550 stoves, but gave away a couple. So, now, I think I'm down to 4-5 of them. Hummm...... guess I'd better grab a few more, just in case......!! Ol' Doc
