Currently there's a Borde Bomb on the Bay for about $26 BIN out of China with a seller that has a (0) rating. Last week there was a Primus 41 for a similar price. Fishy...
Yep it's a scam. There are several high dollar stoves from these sellers in China that are too good to be true with buy it now and free shipping. If you see more of these high dollar stoves report it to eBay. Cheers, Norman
They seem to have slow delivery, and possible for the seller to get the money without ebay getting their money back. And, they may be just trying to get personal info about the buyer. This is going to raise the fees on ebay. Some members on CCF have purchased, and got their money back.
Always look carefully at sellers with 0 ratings. Its not often they make the mistake of selling a prized possession at a bargain sub basement price. Often another clue is they have a lot of items for sale.
I saw the Borde Bomb too. I can't swing a new [to me] rare stove now, so I didn't bite. I thought it sold for over $200, final bid. But it did look too good to be true. Maybe a different deal that the BIN scam, but I think the seller was out of Hong Kong.
It is not hard to find the original photo of the original sale to see they are copying the information from the original. (Did I say original enough?) Here is a photo of the first sale, and the second and third are scams.
EBay's funny. There's a US seller with an NOS genuine, Unfired, Esbit-branded rat trap hexi burner, with a BIN of $25.91. [And no Esbit fuel tabs.] Why would I pay five times its value? Since its unfired, would I ever dare burn in it? People, go figure.
Winning bid on that Borde was $260 USD. Sold on Nov 11. Seller was out of Aukland, NZ. Appeared to be complete, little-used and had bracket-grill, aluminum case and accessories. Early bids were low, in $20 dollar range. Didn't want to get on an express elevator ride, so I passed. Yeah, legit sale. But a ''Rare vintage silent burner Petromax no. 100 kerosene camp stove in tin'' from a mainland China seller, with a $16.40 BIN, free shipping, also ''Brand New'' -- 0 seller feedback -- does seem to fit your ''too good to be true'' scam profile.
And, if you search for past completed sales you will, undoubtedly, find a legitimate sale with the same exact photograph. But ...
